  • The Austrian Anschluss

    The Austrian Anschluss
    Hitler threatened to invade German- Speaking Austria unless Austrian unless Austrian Nazis were given important government posts. So Hitler sent troops into Austria in March and announced the Anschluss, or unification, of Austria and Germany.
  • Munich Conference

    Britain and France agreed to Hitler's demands, a policy that came to be known as appeasement. They mad concessions in exchange for peace. Britain's Neville Chamberlain said, " a peace with honor... peace in our time".
  • Hitler Demands Danzig

    Hitler demanded that the city of Danzig be returned to German control. It was part of Poland since WWI.

  • The Nazi- Soviet Pact

    German officials proposed a nonaggression treaty to the Soviets. If the USSR signed the treaty, Germany will go to war with Britain and France and Russia will be safe. The treaty also had a secret deal that would divide Poland to Germany and Russia.
  • The Invasion of Poland

    Some 1.5 million German troops invade Poland all along its 1,750-mile border with German-controlled territory. The Germans bombed Polish airfields and German U- boats attacked Polish naval forces.

  • The Fall of France

    France built a 280- mile fort on the border of France and Germany. Germany broke though the fort and pushed France.

  • The Evacuation of Dunkirk

    The evacuation of Allied forces from Dunkirk on the Belgian coast ends as German forces capture the beach port. It saved 338,000 Allied troops from capture by the Nazis.
