Early Events Leading to American Documents

    Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta is a charter that enforced King John of England to proclaim certain liberties. It was the first document he had to follow and it was made by various groups. First written in Latin and later translated into various languages.
  • Petition of Right

    An English document explaining specific liberties that the King is not allowed to take away. Passed on June 7th, 1689 in Parliamentary Archives, London. The author of this was Sir Edward Coke and was created on May 8th, 1628.
  • English Bill of Rights

    An act passed the English parliament on December 16, 1689. It was written in the United Kingdom and it was to explain the power the parliament had. It caused arguments and explained what the parliament was able to do. It had set its basic rights for the Englishmen.
  • Tea Act

    An act passed by the Parliament of England on May 10th, 1763. It was passed to reduce the surplus of tea because of financial trouble with British East India Company. As well as to help the company survive from its struggles. Which later caused the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed on March 22, 1765 by the British Parliament. It was used to tax the people of the colonies, that any printed materials be used on stamped paper and produced in London. It was repealed on March 8th, 1766.
  • Townshend Duties

    Passed in the beginning of 1767, it was called the Townshend Act. Named after Charles Townshend who was the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Its purpose was to raise tax in colonies for them to pay the salaries of governs and judges. It later resulted in the Boston Massacre which took place on March 5th, 1770.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre took place on March 5th, 1770 in Boston, Massachusetts. It injuried six people and killed five cilvilan men, British army soldiers were the ones who shot the people. The incident had been cause by taxation from the British Parliament. Tension grew between the soldiers and people on the bay that day.
  • First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress took place in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was on September 5th, 1774 this involved 12 delegates from colonies. Georgia was excluded from this convention. It was around the early American Revolution, It had been called for because of the Intolerable Acts. Boston had been punished by the British Parliament because of the Boston Tea Party.
  • Second Continental Congress

    It was another convention involving 12 delegates from the colonies, Georgia once again did not participate in this event. It took place on May 10th, 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This covention was held to dicuss colonial warfare and as well for independence.
  • Common Sense Published (Thomas Payne)

    "Common Sense" is a pamphlet that was written by Thomas Payne and published on January 10th, 1776. Which was the beginning of the American Revolution. It was written because of Thomas's ideas for freedom from the British. Which at that time era it was still an undecided request. It sold 120,000 copies and is known to be one of most selling copies in American history.
  • Declaration of Independence signed

    The Declaration of Independence is a statement that was signed by the 56 delegates who attended the conventions. John Adams was the main person who pushed for this document to be signed. The reason for this was for the thirteen colonies to get their independence from Great Britian. They no longer wanted to be a part of the British empire and Adams wanted the statement signed on July 2nd.
