    Opened the first Montessori school named The Casa Bambini or Children's house in Rome. Dedicated herself to advancing her child-centered approach to education. Montessori education was adopted worldwide with now more than 22,000 Montessori schools in at least 110 countries worldwide.   • National Defense Education Act (NDEA)

    National Defense Education Act (NDEA)
    The National Defense Education Act was signed in 1958 stating that the best defense is a good educational offense. Provided federal funding for science, technology, engineering, math and foreign language.

    The Economic Opportunity Act (EOA)
    Part of our 36th president Lyndon B. Johnson's war on poverty act. The EOA worked to provide and promote the health, education, and general welfare for people with low socio economic status. The EOA provided for the beginning of Head Start one of the longest-running programs to work with systemic poverty in the U.S.

    Provide children with disabilities the same opportunity for education as those students who do not have a disability. Makes classroom environments and curriculum accessible for all children. Before the IDEA the U.S. public schools accommodated only 1 out of 5 children with disabilities.   • No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

    No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
    Established by The National Defense of Education. The Act required states to develop assessments in basic skills. To receive federal school funding, states had to give these assessments to all students at select grade levels. Each state develops there own skills. Which is now replaced by the Every Student Succeeds Act which modified but did not eliminate provisions relating to the periodic standardized tests given to students.

    The Preschool for All Initiative
    Help provide all low- and moderate-income four-year-old children with high-quality preschool, while also incentivizing States to expand these programs to reach additional children from middle-class families and establish full-day kindergarten policies. The White House budget included $77 billion in which $66 billion of which went to the Preschool for All initiative.
