    U.S.S. Maine exploded in Havana Harbor, killing 268 men and shocking the American population. It was said that the Spanish could have had a part in this but it hard to tell how it blew up.

    The Battle of the Philippines was the United States handling a rebellion that was caused after giving Spain $20 million to annex it. It was also when the Americans defeated the Spanish fleet that was guarding the islands.
