    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta was issued by king John of England. It was supposed to be a peace treaty between king John and rebel barons. Even though it was a failure, the Magna Carta was important because it provided a new and better relationship between the king and the rebel barons.
  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    Jamestown was important because it was the first permanent English settlement in North America. In the first two years famine , disease, and conflict with local Native American tribes brought Jamestown to the edge of failure. During the 1620's, Jamestown expanded from the area around the original James Fort into a new town built to the east. It remained the capital of Virginia colony until 1699
  • French & Indian war

    French & Indian war
    The French and Indian war (also mown as the Seven Years of War) was between Britain and France. It was important because after the British decided that after defending the colonies, it was time for them to start paying for it. They put taxes on the colonies without having American representatives in Britain. This started the conflict between the colonies and Britain
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a street fight between a patriot mob ( which were throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks ) and a group of British soldiers. Multiple colonist were shot and killed; the first person being Crispus Attucks, a black sailor. This was important because it led to a campaign by speech-writers to arouse the anger of citizenry
  • Lexington & Concord

    Lexington & Concord
    Also known as "The shot herd around the world." The British army set out to capture rebel leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Lexington. They also wanted to destroy Americans store of weapons and ammunition in Concord. This event was important because it's was the first battle of the American Revolution
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was mainly written by Thomas Jefferson. It was important because it says that the government exists for the benefit of the people. It also states that all men are equal.
  • Invention of the cotton gin

    Invention of the cotton gin
    The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney. It became popular in the south because the cotton gin could successfully pull out the seeds from the cotton bolls. The cotton gin was important because it also caused an increase in the number of slaves needed to pick cotton therefore strengthening the arguments for continuing slavery.

    Invention of the steamboat
    The steamboat was invented by Robert Fulton. The steam boat was an important part of the industrial revolution because it made it easier to carry cargo up and down stream. It was also cheaper but it was not uncommon for it to break down due to mechanical problems.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The trail of Tears was part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy. It was important because the Cherokee nation was forced to give up their land east of the Mississippi River. They then had to migrate out to an area in Oklahoma.
  • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    The California Gold Rush was during the years 1848 and 1855. Throughout this time, gold was discovered in California. This caused over 30,000 people to travel out and hunt for gold ( those people were called forty-niners)
