    In the Election of 1800, Thomas Jefferson was pitted against Federalist John Adams. Jefferson beat out Adams, but tied his running mate Aaron Burr. This sent the final vote to the House of Representatives, where Thomas prevailed.

    In April of 1803, The United States and France made a huge deal. France needed money to fight in the war with Europe, so they sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States for only $15 million. This event doubled the size of the US and changed the country forever.

    James Madison won the election of 1808 by a large margin. He defeated Federalist Charles Pinckney and Independent Republican George Clinton. Madison received nearly 70% of all electoral votes.

    The Battle of New Orleans was one of the biggest victories in the War of 1812 for the Americans. However, this victory came after the Treaty of Ghent was signed, which officially ended the war. The news of the treaty came after the battle. The Americans were led by Andrew Jackson. The British suffered 2,000 casualties in a span of 30 minutes.

    James Monroe Elected President
    James Monroe was the 5th US President. In the election of 1816, Monroe defeated Rufus King by a very large margin. Monroe did many things to help the country. In 1819, he helped settle problems in Florida by purchasing the territory for $5 million. In 1820, Monroe signed the Missouri Compromise, which delayed the Civil War. The most prolific thing that James Monroe did was the Monroe Doctrine in 1823. This stated that no European power should colonize anymore land in the Western Hemisphere.
