DNA Scientists

  • Fred Griffin's Contributation

    Fred Griffin's Contributation
He injected rats with deadly bacteria and all of the rats died after. He then killed the bacteria by hearint them up. But the rats did not die.
  • Avery, McCarty, and Macleod

    Avery, McCarty, and Macleod
Oswald T. Avery, Maclyn McCarty, and Colin MacLeod identified deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) as the "transforming principle" responsible for specific characteristics that are found in bacteria.
  • Hershey and Chase

    Hershey and Chase
Hershey and Chase infected bacteria with a virus containing racdioactive proteins (sulfur) or in a separate experiment radioactive DNA which was phosphorus. The bacteria was mixed with virus for 15 minutes. They then separated the bacteria from the viruses that had not infected bacteria yet.
  • Watson and Crick

    Watson and Crick
James Watson and Francis Crick were the two co-discoverers of the structure of DNA in 1953. They used an x-ray photography by Rosalind Franklin and determined the double helix or spiral staircase structure for the DNA molecule.
  • Franklin

    Franklin
Rosalind Franklin helped Crick and Watson discover the double helix structure of DNA.He had an x-ray photograph that was shown to Crick and Watson. Who was shown briefly and able to determine the structure.
  • Meselson and Stahl

    Meselson and Stahl
In 1958, they did an experiment that showed how DNA replicated.
  • Erwin Chargoff

    Erwin Chargoff
In 1950 he discovered two rules on the basis of which we were able to figure out that the DNA had a double helical structure. The first rule was that the DNA had equal percentage of Adenine and Thymine, and also an equal percentage of Guanine and Cytosine. The second rule was that the mentioned pairs were always paired with each other and could not be crosspaired
