During our EDUC 500 Research Methodologies in Education course, we were asked to think about an inquiry project we would like to initiate. Over the course of the next week, I put together a proposal for putting the plan in action.

I experienced challenges. After a couple of calls to the nice people at the SMART Technologies support line, it was discovered the classroom laptops needed to be upgraded in order to download the latest Notebook 10.8 software.
-
In order to get the students used to seeing and comfortable usingon the IWB, I created some review starter actvities.
-
Our school's ICT teacher agreed to assist me with upgrading and downloading the Notebook software on to each of the laptops.
-
After a month of introducing students to AVID learning strategies and participating in some necessary team-builiding activities, the class started the Chemistry unit.
-
Students used the Facebook template I created during the SMART Summer Institute at Livingstone Elem. this past summer. I saved it onto the school's server, so students could access and then later save their work.
-
After students presented their IMB SMART Facebook project, I sent each one an online survey using Suvey Monkey in order to collect some data about their experience using the software template, as well to allow them to provide some feedback on their experiences.
-
Feedback from the students and from what I observed confirmed the fact that the laptops needed some more RAM. THis will enable the Notebook software to be use more effectively.
-
Students discovered definitions for such terms as copyright, and intellectual property, and then collaborated with their table groups on creating their own definitions. I also had students respond to ethical delimmas to initiate some discussion about various ethical decisions.
-
I decided to introduce a project-based learning approach to this unit. Students were assigned to groups and were challenged to create a mini project for each of the seven sections. At least one section must be an IWB lesson tutorial and review, with the intended audience being a student who missed a few lessons due to illness or vacation.
-
I was one of three Langley staff members who attended a session put on by James Riberye. He is a district tech support person, who with his 20% position with the district, will come out to our individual schools to help support those of us with IWBs.
