The term dimishing progress is a term that sounds like an oxymoron, but is very, very strict. Dimishing progress is something that you should look for throughout this timeline inside its events. Also notice how Africans have been making progress in the racial critisizing world and how African's lives were changed because of their skin color. Diminishing Progress means progress losing progress.

    Diminishing Progress

  • Anthony Accquires Land in Northampton County

Anthony Accquires Land in Northampton County
Captain Taylor gained 250 acres of land in Northampton County and shared it with Anthony Johnson. This is one of the first African to accquire land in the colonies of New America. This is how Anthony Johnson got his social status of a large plantation owner and why he needed a slave.
  • Anthony Petitions for his Slave

    Anthony Petitions for his Slave
Anthony Johnson gets a hog head of tobacco and his slave that was petitioned for named John Casar. This is really odd because an African American getting a slave of his own was not peculiar in that day. He had a slave, though, because he owned a large plantation.
  • Casual Killing

    Casual Killing
If any slave were to resist his master, he shall be punished extremely. If the slave were to "accidently die, the master would not be accused or punished in any way. This is significant to Diminishing Progress by the Englishmen putting fear into the slaves, and putting power into themselves.
  • Hog Stealing

    Hog Stealing
There is now more persecution for the disobediance/behaivor of slaves. For stealing a hog, the ears are to be nailed to a post and after that, cut off. They will also recieve thirty nine lashes, 40 might kill you. This act is a horrible thing to do to Afican because they are slaves or because of their skin color. This is giving the slave owners power, therefore diminishing the slaves' progress while the Englishmen are putting fear into them.
  • Slaves Declared Property

    Slaves Declared Property
According to this statement, slaves could be sold, bought, and called property. This is not somethingsomeone can say that the've been through. It is horrible that someone is calling another human being a piece of real estate because of their skin color. This is the Englishmen being greedy to their full estate and also making the Africans more afraid.
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
When Anthony Johnson won a court case against a white man, he was considered an amazing example. The next time someone mentions slavery, remember the horrible things that happened to African Americans and what amazing feats they accomplished. Also, what would you do if you were a slave and you where being treated unfairly under your will, tortured, or maybe even killed. Think about how you would stand up for Africans if you where an abolitionist.
