One time, it became known that Tawell had boarded a train to London and The Five-Needle Telegraph was used to signal ahead to the terminus at Paddington and they arrested that person there.

    Émile Baudot invented the Baud. It was a character coding telegraph. Each character in the alphabet is represented by a series of five bits and it was used by using channels such as a telegraph wire or a radio signal.
