Becoming a Misfit
Rachel Misfot is a smart prodigy who likes to isolate herself from her dumb classmates especially "Retard," Dylan. Rachel's class decides to have an award show and Rachel is titled "The Official Misfit of Eighth Grade" by Dylan and her classmates agree with him. This affects the plot because this is when Rachel receives her new nickname and, when she went ballistic on her mom and her mom gave her a diary in return. This is when the story begins. -
A Misfit being a Misfit
Rachel Misfot was just being her normal self; reading cook books, ordering coin collection, naming writing utensils and watching pop quiz. Until she found out that she gets go on her favourite tv show "Pop Quiz!" But Rachel has to be on the show with Dylan. This is an important part of the story because Rachel gets to know Dylan better and they both start developing a crush on each other. Rachel also starts getting attention from other people in her class. -
When you break a Misfit...
Rachel finds out from a Kristen, a classmate of hers hat the only reason that the only reason why Dylan had been trying to get closer to her is because he had made a bet that if he gets to kiss Rachel before Pop Quiz he gets a hundred dollars. Rachel is hurt because she actually believed that he had liked her. This effects the plot because this is when Rachel stays away from Dylan and befriends Kristen. -
BFF (Best Friend Forever)
After Rachel finds out from Kristen that Dylan was using her, Kristen pities her and they both befriend each other. Kristen then introduces Rachel to her brother, Jessie. Kristen and Rachel go to Keisha's party together where Rachel finds out her and Jessie have much in common. This is a key part of the story because Kristen and Rachel become close friends and Rachel gets to meet Jessie and they both start crushing on each other. -
The Monsters Come out During Haloween
Rachel was supposed to go to Keisha's party but she had to bail out because she had to babysit her devil of a cousin Sarah last minute. She later finds out that there was a huge fire during the party. Keisha and her brothers and Jessie were hurt really badly while Kristen was scared mentally. This is an important part of the story because all of Rachel friends are hurt and she didn't know how bad their condition was. -
Pop Quiz Part 1
It's is the day of pop quiz and Rachel is pretty nervous. She reflects on what happened/ is happening to her friends; Keisha and Kade ( Keisha's younger brother) in Arizona with their Grandmother while Kade, her older brother is in rehab recovering from his amputed leg. Pop Quiz passes by and as expected Rachel wins while Dylan doesn't even get passed the first round... -
Pop Quiz part 2
This is an important part of the book because this was what the book was leading up to and all the drama that happened started during the countdown to pop quiz. All, if not most of the incidents that occurred probably wouldn't have happened if Rachel didn't get into pop quiz. -
When I see you again
After pop quiz, Rachel finds out that Jessie and Kristen are moving to California and Jessie got a scholarship for his dream school. They all shed some tears and Jessie and Rachel share their first and last kiss (for now). This is a significant part of the story because she finds out Jessie her first love and Kristen her first real best friend has to leave and she is truly heart broken by it. -
The Best Diary a Misfit Could Ever Have Part 2
This is a fundamental part of the book because she ends her journey in Boston and embarks on a new journey in California with Jessie and Kristen. -
The Best Diary a Misfit Could Ever Have Part 1
Rachel finds out that her first place prize is a trip to California and a scholarship to an amazing school near Branford (Jessie's dream school.) She takes the offer and decides to move to California to see Jessie and Kristen again. She signs of her diary by telling us its name, Amanda and she doesn't think she will get another diary because she doesn't want to betray Amanda. She ends her diary by telling us that Amanda is "the best diary a misfit could ever have."
