    In the early morning of June 25 the North Koreans crossed the 38th parallel into South Korea, with artillery barrages coming in along with the overwhelming troops the South Koreans din't stand a chance. By June 28 the North Koreans had captured Seoul, South Korea's capital, but had not forced a surrender.

    South Korea Gains Control of the 38th Parallel
    With the help of the US, South Korea's troops fought back to Seoul. The US launched an amphibious attack at Incheon, this got troops behind enemy lines and helped weaken the North Korean defense. By October 1st the South Korean forces crossed the 38th parallel.

    In late 1952 the war had basically come to a stalemate. The US was hinting at nuclear use to break the North Korean morale and scare China. Taiwan also used air raids on China to halt supplies from getting to North Korea. In June of 1953 both sides agreed to end the bloodshed and sign an armistice.

    Syngman Rhee is Forced to Resign
    Rhee had won the 1956 election but faced ridicule for apparently rigging the election. This caused many protests during his final term, at one of these protests in Masan police killed protesters. This caused nation wide outrage and a student led revolution caused Rhee to resign in April 1960. The CIA flew Rhee his wife and their adopted child to Hawaii to live out their lives in exile.

    in 1991 without a vote the UN accepted North and South Korea into the United Nations.
