    The Lisbon Earthquake was a magnitude 9 earthquake that occurred in Portugal. The earthquake and subsequent tsunami killed around 20,000 people. The waves that crossed the Atlantic from the tsunami were believed to be around 7 meters when they reached the West Indies.

    Krakatoa is located between the islands of Sumatra and Java along the Indonesian arc. Krakatoa erupted, causing the top of the mountain to collapse into the ocean. This caused a massive displacement of water that created a tsunami with an estimated height of 35 meters. This devastating tsunami destroyed around 165 villages, killing more than 36,000 people. The Krakatoa eruption is one of the largest eruptions in modern times.

This tsunami was unusually powerful for the size of the earthquake. this prompted researchers to classify it as a tsunami earthquake.
