David Bloor was born in Derby, United Kingdom
-
Bloor's thesis titled "Speech and the Regulation of Behavior" allowed him with a doctorates from the University of Edinburgh
-
Through his written publication "Knowledge and Social Imagery", Bloor and his colleague Barry Barns were able to develop his theory "The Strong Programme". This idea would falsify other theories on the basis that their creators had biases that leaked into their work.
-
Bloor's publication of "Rules and Institutions" challenged Ludwig Wittgenstein's theory that the way humans follow rules is an institution. The flaw in this idea is that he didn't explain any further on the matter. The work gathers philosophical and sociological viewpoints (philpapers).
-
David Bloor currently teaches at the University of Edinburgh as a professor of Sociology of Science in the Science Studies.
