The first boat is said to have been made anywhere between 8200 and 7600 BC. It is said to have been made out of a hollow tree trunk. Since then people have used them many different ways including transportation and recreational activities. -

Horse and Buggy
The first horse drawn carriage (buggy) was created in the 15th century. They were invented to help people carry items from one place to another. -
I want to ride my bicycle
Carriages were made and used by the middle and lower class. The farmers also used carriages. However, the higher class used buggy's to show that they were wealthy. The fist ever bicycle was invented in 1790. These two wheeled machines became more popular and more common in the 1900's. All working people had bicycles. -
The First Train
The first train was created by Richard Trevithick. There have been many different variations of the train itself along with many different people behind those different variations. -
Razor
Another item that is used today is the scooter. The original scooter was invented in Germany in 1817. In the US scooters were most enjoyable during the great depression. When most children built their own scooters out of wood. -
The wheels on the bus go round and round!
The first bus was pulled by a horse, just like the first car. From then it advanced to be more safe and hold more people. They originated in Paris but have become more popular all around the world. -
Monorail
In 1825 the first monorail was created. It was based on Henry Palmer's original design. -
Funicular
The first funicular was made in 1869. They are mostly used when going up a steep mountain side that is a tourist attraction. -
Rickshaw
What is a rickshaw? A rickshaw is a small, covered, vehicle with no doors. They were first invented in India in 1880. They have continued to remain popular there every since. Some run on a motor and some a man will power by riding a portion of a bicycle. -
Motorcycle
The first motorcycle was made in 1885 by a collaboration of German inventors. Their first attempt ran on petroleum and it continued to for a long time. -
Trolley
A trolley, tram, or street car whatever you call it is a rail vehicle which runs on tramway tracks along public urban streets. The first trolley was pulled by horses but then later became attached to cables. -
First of many Firsts
Over the years there has been much debate on whom truly invented the first automobile. However, the most known for accomplishing this task would be Henry Ford. Henry Ford first invented the automobile in 1901. It was a 26-horse power. The gasoline tank was a cylinder that was found in the back of the automobile. -
To infinity and beyond
Another big piece of transportation we use is an airplane. The first airplane was invented in 1903 by the Wright brothers.This has been very beneficial to us because if they hadn't had done that then we couldn't experience the incredible feeling it is to fly. -
Undergroud subway
In 1904 the first underground subway was invented in New York City. After this being the first many other cities and places caught onto it. Now you can usually find an underground subway in just about any major city. -
Skateboard
Something that young people used to be interested in was skateboarding. Originally called "sideways surfing" was first invented in the late 1940's. Skateboarding these days have a bunch of crazy tricks and flips but most people used to ride them to get to work or school.
