  • The first residential school opened

    The Mohawk Institute in Brantford, Ontario. This is the very first residential school to be opened in Canada
  • Schools starting to take in more indigenous kids

    At first the boarding schools started off with 6 indigenous boys. Later in the year they started to take in more children.
  • The British North America Act was Created

    This act merged the three separated territories into a single dominion.
  • The Indian Act Was Created And Signed

    This act required to give Indigenous students education and assimilate them into the Canadian Society
  • The establishment of Industrial schools on the Prairies

  • The highest amount of residential schools running at the same time

    By the year 1931 there were 80 schools operating. This was the highest amount of schools running at the same time.
  • Half day schools were eliminated

    It seemed that the half days were failing to provide the children with the proper education and training.
  • The Last Residential School was Closed
