Constitutional Timeline

  • The Boston Tea Party

    American colonists had a protest regarding taxes being held. They dressed up as Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    These were placed by the British Parliament in order to punish the colonies for their transgression.
  • Declaration of Independence

    This is considered the founding document of the United States. This was created after the separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris allowed for the Revolutionary War to be finished. Both the United States and Great Britain signed the Treaty of Paris to declare the U.S its independence.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    An armed uprising that occurred in Western Massachusetts to help strengthen the Federal Government.
  • Annapolis Convention

    A convention located in Annapolis, MD to discuss the deficient Articles of Confederation. This occurred from September 11-14th, 1786.
  • Constitutional Convention

    This ranged from May 14th - September 17th, 1787. It occurred in Philadelphia, PA. This was when the Articles of Confederation was planned to be revised. Although, larger plans occurred instead.
  • Three Branches

    The Three Branches of Government were created. The Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branch.
  • The Residence Act

    The act declared a location on Potomac River, aka Washington DC as the official location for the seat of the United States Government.
  • Bill of Rights

    The Ten Amendments were added to the Constitution
