    Peopl moved westward looking for things to satisfy their needs. While people were traveling they often foundb etter land, and end up settling there, creating towns. Farmers found better land for the cattle, minners discorved gold and silver, everyone went to the west trynig to find something that they wanted.

    The discovery of gold caused a huge increase in the people moving westard. Once they discorved gold everyone wanted to go west and get gold for themselves.

    The United States wanted to build a railroad from the east coast to the west. Two companies the Centeral Pacific Railroad company and Union Pacific Railroad would meet in the middle while they both raced to build the tracks.

    Barbed wire was used for fencing, it took the place of wood. Wood was much more costly and harder to aquire. Micheal Kelly desgined it in 1868, but Joseph Gildden improved it, and put the final touches on it in 1874.
