First Exposure to books
Before I could remember, my mom thought reading was important so she would read several books to me. She wanted to immerse me in literature from an early age -
Trying to read
I was still to young to know HOW to read, but I did enjoy trying to read (ie: make up words on the page). I really enjoyed Dr. Suess - especially Hop on Pop! -
Learning to read
I was probably in kindergarten or first grade when I remember learning to read. I specifically remember learning some of the three cueing system decoding methods. (now I know, this was not the most effective strategy) -
Found enjoyment in reading!
Once I became a better reader - I really enjoyed reading short picture books. I remember my favorite was Bad Case of the Stripes. -
Graduated to chapter books
As my reading skills grew, I found chapter books! My favorites were the magic tree house books or you choose the ending books. -
Began to lose interest in reading
Now that I began reading chapter books, I really missed picture books. I had a hard to envisioning the pictures/scenes I was reading in my head which made reading feel more like a chore than fun. -
Found teenage drama genre
I started to enjoy reading again in middle school when I found young adult/teenage drama themed books. I really enjoyed ready The Clique Series! -
Reading felt forced
I remember in High School having to read several books which were of no interest to me and I ended up really disliking reading. I no longer read for fun and quite frankly, never really read for school. -
No longer read at all
After high school, I no longer read any books. I was so glad to be done with school and did not think I would have to be forced to read books anymore. (LOL, so I thought!) I really disliked reading and literature after school because I felt like it was not entertaining or interesting. -
Semi-enjoy reading
While reading is definitely not my favorite past time, I'll admit - I definitely do enjoy it much more since my high school days. I enjoy reading for fun (drama / self-help genre) and even enjoy reading some of the text/books I have had to read over the course of my college course work!
