  • Tge CNC was completed.

    Bell Telephone Labs created the CNC, or the Complex Number Calculator.
  • The Williams tube won for a practical random-access memory.

    Drederick Williams from Machest Unviersity modified a cathode-ray tube to paint dots and dashes to represent the binary ones and zeros, therefore storing information.
  • EDSAC was created

    Maruice Wilkes created EDSAC, the first practical stored program computer. He created it at Cambridge University.
  • ERA 1101

    The Engineering Research Associates of Minneapolis created the ERA 1101, which was the first commerically produced computer. It he,d 1 million fits on its magnetic drum, also making it the earliest magnetic storage device.
  • Nixdorf Computer Corp. Was Founded

    Heinz Nixdorf founded the Nixdork Computer Corp in Germany, which eventually merged with Siemens in 1990
  • IAS becomes operational

    John von Neumann's IAS computer became operation at the Institude for Advanced Studies in Princeton, N.J.
  • UNIVAC Election

    CBS borrowed a UNIVAC to predict the outcome of the presidentical rase between Eisenhower and Stevenson.
  • Mass Produced Computers

    The IBM 650 was the first established mass-produced computer, the company sold 450 a year. The 650's magnetic data storage was much faster then the past drum memory machines.
  • TX-0 was invented

    MIT researchers built the TX-0, which was the first general purpose programable computer.
  • First Large Scale Computer Communications

    SAGE- Semi-Automatic Ground Environment- had linked hundreds of radar stations in the US and Canada. It was made to help protect the area from the Soviet Union.
  • Intel's 8008 microprocessor

    Intel created their 8008 microprocessor, which was an improvement ver the 4004.
  • The Alto is designed

    The first work station with a built-in mouse for input was the Alto, which stored several files, offered menus and icons, and could link to local networks. Alto was never sold commerically.
  • The Apple-1 is made

    Steve Wozniak designed the Apple-1, which was a single-board computer for hobbyists.
  • The Commondore PET

    The Personal Electronic Transactor, of PET, was created. It was the first of several personal computers released in 1977 (Along with the Apple II and the TRS-80)
  • Atari launched the Video Computer System

    Atari released the Atari Video Computer System of VCS and later renamed it the AStari 2600.
  • First Portable Computer

    Adam Osborne completed the first portable computer, the Osborne I, which weighed 24 pounds and cost around 1,795$.
  • Macintosh was launched.

    Apple Computer created the first successful mouse-drive computer, the Machintosh. The Macintosh originally costed 2,500
  • Motorola presented the 68030 microprocessor.

    Motorola created a new processor that was built on a 32-bit enhanced microprocessor.
  • The NeXt was launched.

    Steve Jobs created the NeXT, which was a failed computer that helped to recognize a drive for an optical storage disk.
  • Atari introduced the Model 400 and 800 Computers.

    Shortly after Atari created the VCS game console, they bult two machines with the idea that the 400 would become a game console and the 800 a home computer.
  • The Terminator 2: Judgement Day

    This movie was ground-breaking with Industrial Lights and 'Magics'. It was a record $100 million and was the most expensive movie ever made at the time.
  • Mosaic web browser

    The Mosaic web browser was released, it was the first commercial software.
  • Yahoo was founded

    Jerry Yang and David Filo created Yahoo, which was originally named "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web."
  • The Iomega Zip Disk

    The initial Iomega Zip Disk system allowed 100MB to be stored on a cartridge that was roughly the size of 3.5 inch floppy disk.
