  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    Jamestown was where the first succesful settlers, from England, landed. The settlers in Jamestown were dieing one by one until the help of an indian women came. Her name was Pocahontas and she helped the settlers flourish. Soon after, they were gaining money like crazy especially with there main product tobacco.
  • Virginia House of Burgesses

    Virginia House of Burgesses
    The Virginia House of Burgesses was the first legislature in America. This committe took place in Virginia at an old church in Jamestown. There were twenty-two members in this house and soon after it became a representative of the government. This house first law of order was to put a price on their tobacco.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was signed by forty-one male pilgrims in the Mayflower. This document was the first government related contract in the new World. The Mayflower Compact became the basis for the Plymouth Colony. It was signed to bring peace between the two groups that were in the Mayflower. This document would soon help shape the History of America.
  • Plymouth Rock

    Plymouth Rock
    Plymouth rock is where the Plymouth Colony first setttled. The Plymouth came in a ship called the Mayflower. Plymouth Rock can be found in Massachusetts. This colony wanted religious rights and were peaceful. The colony was the first to create the event Thanksgving Day.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    Nathaniel Bacon thought the colonist should attack the indians. The governer of the colony, William Berkeley, did not think the same. He thought if they attacked they might hurt some innocent indians. Bacon asked for a commision but was denied. He came back with five-hundred men to force a commision out of Berkely. He got it but soon learned he was actually given a baloney. He came back and started a rebellion with Berkely. At the end the rebelion was stopped by the British.

    Glorious Revolution
    The Glorious Revolution was a big non-violent revolution that was also known as the "Bloodless Revolution". It was when William of the House of Orange and his wife, Mary, took the throne from King James the Second. This event took out any possibility of England ever becoming a Catholic monarchy.
  • Toleration Act

    Toleration Act
    The Toleration Act was an act of Parliament granting the nonconformists freedom to worship. This act permitted the nonconformist their own place of worship. However this act did not include the Catholics or the Unitarians.
  • English Bills of Right

    English Bills of Right
    The English Bills of Right was a document declaring the rights and liberties of the people. The English Bills of Right also lay down the limits on power of the crown. It was signed in 1689 by William of Orange and Mary the Second.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    Salem Witch Trials
    The salem witch trials was a period of time in which fear ruled the earth and because of fear many people died. It all started when two women started accusing other townsfolks of witchcraft. This led to the first witch trial. The accused would be given the option of confessing and being pressed to death or not confessing and being hanged. At the end this resulted into the death of twenty innocent citizen and the end of the Puritan faith.
  • John Peter Zenger

    John Peter Zenger
    John Peter Zenger was a german immigrant who printed a publication called The New York Weekly Journal. In this publication it harshly judged how unfair the government was. The government soon learned about him and hauled him into prison. When the trials began Andrew Hamilton stood as the defender of John. At the end Zenger was found nonguilty of his crime. This put another block of liberty into place. It allowed the people to feel more free as to what they could print.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was a war between France and Great Britain. This war took place in North America causing the war to be very expensive. In this war, the indians helped the french fight against Great Britain. Unfortunately Great Britain still won the war and gained a lot of North America's land. This war set the stage for the American Revolutionary War.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The proclamation of 1763 was created to stop more wars against the indians. It was suppose stop the wars by prohibiting any brithish settlers to live beyond the Appalation Mountains. This proclamation of King George the Third was ignored by the british settlers especially by the ones who were already living beyond the Appalation Mountains.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The French and Indian War caused Great Britain to go into severe debt. In order to repay the debt Great Britain put taxes on all of the colonies printing matters. Up to this point the colonies had to pay no taxes so of course this angered the colonies. They soon rebelled against this act. Soon after the Stamp Act was taken out in March 18, 1766.

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act was also an act caused by the severe debt of Great Britain. The act said that all of the thirteen colonies were force to house and feed any british soldier.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act was passed to control the behavior of the colonies. The act said that the king or queen has control over everything the colonies does. They can tax whatever they want, power to make laws is in the hands of the king, and many others. This act angered many of the colonies' citizens.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston massacre was the first major violent event that helped sparked the American Revolution. This event started when a young apprentice, Edward Gerrish, accosted an officer. Another officer saw this and started to beat him. This soon led to a massacre between the civilians and the soldiers. When it all stopped five americans died and six were injured. After the massacre a man named Samual Adams spoked about the involvement of ordinary working Americans in an important revolutionary event.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act forced all civilians to buy there tea from a company called the East India Company. Great Britain had no intention of angering the colonist, they were just trying to hep this company make money.Even though the prices were extremely low the colonies just saw this as an act of power from the government. This act angered the civilians causing the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party started because of the Stamp Act. It all happened one night when sixty local Boston men, dressed up as Mohawks, boarded three ships carrying tea. In the ships they smashed three-hundred sixty four crates of tea and threw them in the Boston Harbor. The Britain responded by closing the port of Boston.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    In the first Continental Congress each of the colonies except Georgia met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In this meeting the thirteen colonies talked about all the problems they were having, which included the Intolerable Acts. At the end the colonies decided they would do two things. First they would sent a letter to King George explaining how they disliked the way they were being treated. Secondly they made a plan to meet again if Britain ignored their demands.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    2nd Continental Congress
    In the 2nd Continental Congress, the Revolutionary War had just started. The war was looking badly for the Americans so they created a Continental Army with George Washington as the commander-in-chief. In the 2nd Continental Congress the Declaration of Independence also happened. The Articles of confederation and the Marines Corp was also a result of the 2nd Continental Congress.

    Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by the thirteen representatives of each colony. In this document it was declared that the thirteen colonies, or the United States was not part of Great Britain anymore. This document was represented in the 2nd Continental Congress.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    There were many Treaty that happened in Paris throughout history. The reason for that is because Paris is a famous place to sign treaties. The Treaty of Paris that happened in September 3, 1783 ended the American War of Independence with Great Britain declaring the thirteen colonies as the United States of America.
