    TV Age
    The entire public of the U.S. were involved in the TV Age. During the end of the 1950's, Americans owned an estimated 50 million TV sets. New shows and movies were introduced as a form of entertainment for people.The TV was very popular in the U.S. This was important because it changed the lifestyle of Americans. It impacted American society because TV commercials got over $1.5 billion in advertising money, and the ability to view firsthand historical events on coast-to-coast programs.
  • Brown vs. Board

    Brown vs. Board
    Oliver Brown and the Board of Education at the local school in Topeka, Kansas were involved in the event. In 1954,Brown asked the school board to let his daughter attend an all-white school. The NAACP helped him file a lawsuit against the school, saying they violated the 14th amendment. This was important because it overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson case.This impacted American society because the Supreme Court decided to desegregate all schools once Brown won the case in an unanimous decision.

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall involved both East Berlin and West Berlin. 3 million East Berliners fled to West Berlin. In August 1961, East German soldiers began building a wall of concrete and barbed wire all across Berlin. East Berliners who tried to escape to the west were shot. The wall fell in 1989. This was important to history because it became a symbol of the Cold War. The Berlin Wall impacted American politics because it did stop people form crossing, and therefore didn't cause a potential war.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Soviet Union, Cuba and America were all involved. The Soviet Union built missile bases in Cuba. JFK said American warships would turn back soviet ships carrying missiles. The Soviet ships headed toward Cuba, but turned back at the last minute. This event was important to history because it was the closest the world was to a nuclear war. The Cuban Missile Crisis impacted politics because a direct hotline was made between the Soviets and the U.S. in 1963, and they signed two treaties.

    Medicaid was set up by the Social Security Administration in 1965. This gave state governments money to help low income people of all ages with medical bills. This was present in the U.S. Candidates for Medicaid include blind, deaf, aged, disabled and pregnant women. This was important because Medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical services for people with low income in the United States. This impacted American politics and society because benefits vary from state to state.

    Medicare
    Medicare was started by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966. It was present in the United States. It is important because Medicare allowed the U.S. government to help pay the hospital bills of citizens over the age of 65. It covers about half of the health care charges. The people enrolled must cover the remaining charges either with their own insurance or their own money. It impacted America because older adults paid more than three times as much for health insurance as younger people.
  • Nixon/Watergate

    Nixon/Watergate
    Richard Nixon and 5 burglars were involved on June 17, 1972. Richard Nixon was the president, and a Republican. 5 men broke into the Democratic Headquarters. They were caught, and Nixon assured the U.S. that he wasn't involved. Nixon was then exposed from tapes showing he was involved. This was important to history because he was the first president to ever resign from office. It impacted American politics because in July 1974, he was put to trial and he left his presidency early.
  • Space Shuttle Challenger

    Space Shuttle Challenger
    America was the only country involved. On January 28, 1986 the Challenger ship was carrying it's first civilian passenger. Millions of people watched the ship take off for space, but at the takeoff it started smoking and disintegrated at Cape Canaveral, Florida. This was important to history because it failed at carrying a civilian passenger to space, and the shuttle program was put on hold for 32 months. It impacted American society because many lives were lost, and we didn't succeed.

    President George H. W. Bush was a republican president of the U.S. from 1988-1992. From Texas, he started off as Reagan's vice president. He was the director of the CIA from 1976-1977. He was also a Navy pilot in WW2. He was president during the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and passed the Americans with disabilities act. The Berlin Wall fell during his presidency, and he was involved in operation Desert Storm. He impacted american society and politics because of his role during the Persian Gulf War.

    The Cold War happened between 1945 and 1989 between the United States and the Soviet Union. During the Cold War, the Truman Doctrine was created. This was made to stop the growing communist strength. The Marshall Plan was also made to help rebuild Western Europe. The Berlin Wall was also an issue during this time. This was important to history because lots of historical events happened. It impacted American politics because there were many laws and actions taken to control the Soviet Union.

    Bill Clinton
    President Bill Clinton was a democrat. He was first the governor of Arkansas, before he was elected. He plays saxophone and loves music, and won two Grammys. Bill Clinton was an important president because he started a healthcare reform, and sent 20,000 troops to Bosnia. Later on, he signed a test ban treaty for nukes and was even put on trial. He impacted american politics and economy because he lowered the United States deficit. When he was president, it was lower than it had ever been before.

    September 11, 2001 Attacks
    This event involved the U.S., and foreign terrorists. On September 11, 2001, there was a terrorist attack. Terrorists hijacked planes and crashed into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. It happened in New York and Virginia, as well as another plane crash in Pennsylvania. This event was important because it was the first time America was under attack. It impacted American society because the entire country was in a panic, many people lost their lives, and terrorism became a more prevalent topic.

    Many companies and people were involved in this event. In 2008, the world economy faced a dangerous crisis. Companies suffered heavily, banks stopped making loans, and the American auto industry suffered from relying on credit. This happened in the U.S, but the world was affected. It was important because it was the most dangerous crisis the world economy faced since the great depression. It impacted the U.S. economy because the U.S. lost nearly 2 million jobs and the unemployment rate shot up.
