    The world has evolved social media throughout the years. The first social network was Geocities. Geocities was launched in 1944 and allowed you to find people you know. More modern apps and websites such as Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, and many more, offer you different ways to communicate to people. This event was important to history because it boosted the uprising of social media. Social networking impacted society because changed the way we communicate and has become very mobile.

    Korean War
    The Korean War was fought between North Korea and China versus South Korea and the USA. North and South Korea were at war due to their government styles but the war had no effect as everything was the same. The Korean war took place in Korea from 1950-1953. This event was important because stopped South Korea from becoming communist. It impacted American society because many were confused to why we were fighting this war and the Korean citizens thank the U.S. for helping them stay a democracy.
  • Brown vs. Board

    Brown vs. Board
    Oliver Brown wanted his daughter, Linda, to attend a white school because it was closer. The school board ignored the request so Thurgood Marshall filed a lawsuit and won claiming this violated the 14th amendment. This event took place in 1954 in Topeka, Kansas. Brown vs. Board was important because it overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson case and desegregated all schools. This impacted American society because many white people disagreed with this and continued to treat African Americans poorly.

    The U.S. North and South Vietnam, and Cambodia were involved in the war. In this event, the U.S. and South Vietnam were fighting against North Vietnam who was communist. The U.S. bombed Cambodia because they were supplying the North with weapons but North Vietnam won. This took place in Vietnam in 1968. This event was important because the U.S. spent billions of dollars and thousands of troops to not win. The Vietnam War impacted American Society because it caused the Hawks and Doves to form.

    Elvis Presley
    Elvis Presley was a war veteran and the "King of Rock." He was popularized on the Ed Sullivan Show which started his career. Elvis owned a mansion at Graceland in Memphis, TN. Presley was not selfish and donated his money. Sadly, Elvis Presley passed away on August 16, 1977 due to heart failure caused by an overdose of prescription drugs. Elvis Presley had 94 gold singles, 40 gold albums, and starred in 33 movies. He impacted American society because he influenced pop culture and rock and roll.

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin wall established by the Soviet Union which affected German Citizens. During this event, 3 million East Berliners fled West because they did not want to be communist. This embarrassed the Soviets so they built a wall making one side of Berlin communist and the other democratic. It took place in 1961 in Berlin, Germany. This event was important because it was a symbol of the Cold War. It affected American politics because we wanted to unite Berlin and have them run a democracy.

    Medicare/ Medicaid
    Lyndon Johnson and the Social Security Administration set up Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare helped pay hospital bills for people over 65 and Medicaid gave the government money to help low income people with medical bills. This took place in the US in 1965-1966.This helped older adults pay for medical bills because they were charged more and helps people with low income to pay medical bills. Medicare/Medicaid impacted American society because it helped people in need pay for their medical bills.

    Robert F. Kennedy Assasination
    Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan. Sirhan Sirhan shot RFK as he was walking through the kitchen to the Colonial Room because he was mad that he supported Israel's military policies. He died 2 days later in the hospital on June 6, 1968. This event was important because it led to secret society protection service for all future major presidents. This impacted American society because it was another assassination of someone famous and it was the recently passed presidents brother.

    Ronald Reagan served as president from 1980-1988 in the U.S. Reagan was a republican and was the Governor of California and movie star before he became president. Ronald REagan wws important because helped reduce nuclear weapons, put the first woman justice on supreme court, and was president when the Iran Contra Affair happened. Ronald Reagan impacted American economics by creating Reganomics which cut taxes.
  • Space Shuttle Challenger

    Space Shuttle Challenger
    Everyone tuned in on their TV to watch the 7 astronauts go up into space. During the Space Shuttle Challenger, a teacher was chosen to go up into space while it was broadcasted on live TV. Sadly, the Challenger malfunctioned and burst into flames leaving no survivors. This took place in Florida in 1986. This event was important because it was NASA's first civilian passenger to go into space. Space Shuttle Challenger affected American Society because it shocked everyone and left them sorrowful.

    George H.W. Bush served as president from 1988-1992 in the U.S. Bush was Regan's Vice President from Texas and was republican like Reagan. George Bush was important history because he passed the Americans with Disabilities act, helped with the Exxon Valdez oil spill, an was apart of operation desert storm. George H.W. Bush impacted American politics because he took part in the Persian Gulf War.
  • Iraq/ Afghanistan Wars

    Iraq/ Afghanistan Wars
    The U.S. sent troops to Iraq and Afghanistan to stop the terrorists. This took place in October 2001 for Afghanistan and March 2003 for Iraq. The U.S. sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq to stop the possibility of weapons of destruction.These wars were important to history because there was no evidence of weapons and it led to the deaths of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Ladin. The Iraq/Afghanistan wars impacted American economy because these wars costed 4-6 trillion dollars and 6,881 casualties.
