Berlin Blockade and Airlift
A turning point in post World War II in Europe. The U.S., Brittish, and Soviet military forces divided and occupied Germany. The USSR bloackaded West Berlin and cut off all of their supplies. -
Korean War
This war was between North and South Korea; America fought for the South and China and the Soviet Union fought for the North. The war was produced from both the North and South Korean government. Both of them thought they were the legitimate government of Korea and neither accepted the boarder as pernament.The tensions among the U.S. and the Soviets grew stronger. -
Space Race
The Space Race was a competition between the Soviets and the Americans to see who could get the advantage in spaceflight capability. The Soviet Union beat the U.S. by launching the satellite, Sputnik 1. -
U-2 Incident
The U-2 aircraft was a spy plane that was shot down in the Soviet airspace. The pilot was collecting data and observing the enemy. -
Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs was a failed invasion of Cuba. 1,400 American-trained Cubans invaded Cuba to overthrow Castro and his Communist government.The invaders were outnumbered by Castro’s troops, and they surrendered after less than 24 hours of fighting. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
This confrontain was between the U.S. and the Soviet Union over Soviet missle deployed in Cuba. The Soviet Union was threatening to declare war with them. -
Soviets invade Afghanistan
The Soviet army sent 30,000 troops in to Afghanistan and gained military and potlitical control over large portions of the country. There was little success in the war. Around 5 million people fled the country of Afghanistan during the war; most went to Pakistan or Iraq. A total of 13,000 Soviet troops were killed in the war. -
Reagan Visits the Wall
Ronald Reagan gave a speech to the people of West Berlin encouraging them to destroy the wall that wasbuilt up between East and West Berlin. The wall was built by Communist in 1961 to keep the Germans from escaping the Bolshevik- dominated, East Berlin and going to Deomcratic West Berlin. -
The Fall of the Berlin Wall
As the Cold War started to die down, The head of the East German Communist Party annouced Citizen of West BErlin could cross the border freely. People crowded the wall. Some crossed into West Berlin, others started to chip away at the wall with toolo they brought.The Berlin Wall is one of the most powerful and enduring symbols of the Cold War. -
Reunited Germany
West and East Germany ended 45 years of division and tension that began post World War II by reuniting and becoming one nation again.
