  • Chinese Civil War (between Jiang Jieshi and Mao Zedong)

    Chinese Civil War (between Jiang Jieshi and Mao Zedong)
    It was influenced by the peasant farmers who no longer wanted to be known as peasants. The National Government leader Jiang Jieshi was trying to stop the communist revolution, however, the communist leaders got the peasant farmers redistribution of their land, and it made them fight for the communist side. Making this was won by Mao Zedong.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    The Berlin Blockade was when the Soviet Union got into Eastern Germany, and blocked all rails, roads, and water to Western Berlin. This happened when the United States and Great Britain had announced that Western Germany was to have a new currency. The Blockade was eventually lifted in May 1949.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Due to the Berlin Blockade and the people of Western Germany in Berlin not getting the supplies that they need. The airlift was controlled by the western allies, as they knew that Germany could not attack them or it would violate prior agreements. This continued for 11 months as the United States and Great Britain started airlifting food to them, until the Soviets finally lifted the blockade.

    This was the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and it tried to help Europe to stop the spread of communists for one last time. It tried to stop the Soviets from expanding while trying to build up militarism in other European countries. There were 12 Countries originally- 10 European with the addition of Canada and the United States.

    This was a report that suggested that the United States needs to have a massive buildup of weapons. It was supported by the citizens of the United States as well. This made the United States defense budget rise up to to 40 billion dollars.

    The Korean war was when North and South Korea just kept pushing eachother back behind their border line. Thousand North Koreans crossed the parallel and go into South Korean. They created a stalemate war, which is when neither side is winning by the amount of times they just went back and forth.

    Harry Truman as President was also Commander Chief of the military. General MacArthur was told that President Truman wanted no violence, but he didn’t listen and wanted to expand the war to China. He also looked at wanting to attack nuclearly, so President Truman eventually fired him.

    The Warsaw pact was formed by the Soviet Union after the making of the NATO. It was also known as the “Treaty of Friendship” and included the Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria as members. It was used as a defense treaty for these members, as they saw the NATO trying to get Western Germany as a threat.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were in a, 13-day political and military standoff. This happened over the finding that the Soviets has nuclear-armed missiles on Cuba, which were just 90 miles from U.S. shores.
