This day marks the formal acceptance by the allies of WWII of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender if it's armed forces. -
Berlin Blockade/Russia's response
Russia cut all road and rail links as a response to the merger of the French, US, and UK partitions of Berlin.
Those living in western Berlin had no access to food and faced starvation, as a result of the cut of roads. -
Korean War
North Korea invades South Korea and a war begins.
This was the first military action of the Cold War. -

North Korea continued being affiliated with Russia while South Korea was affiliated with the USA.

Suez crisis
British and French force invaded Egypt to regain control of the Suez Canal which had been nationalized by the Egyptian leader Nasser, following military bombardment.
World leaders heavily criticized the attacks because Russia had offered support to Egypt. -

Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the murder but the world has always speculated that there was more than 1 person involved in the murder. -
START
The Strategic Arms Reduction treaty was signed between Russia and the USA.
START I was the first treaty to provide for deep reductions of U.S. and Soviet/Russian strategic nuclear weapons. -
