Berlin Blockade and Airlift
This was a turning point in post World War 2 Europe. The United States and Britain began to supply the city with food and other vital supplies by air. They also organized a similar “airlift” in the opposite direction of West Berlin’s greatly reduced industrial exports. -
Korean War
was a war between North and South Korea, in which a United Nations force led by the United States of America fought for the South, and China fought for the North, which was also assisted by the Soviet Union. The war arose from the division of Korea at the end of World War II and from the global tensions of the Cold War that developed immediately afterwards. -

This is where the US and Soviets had an intense rivalry about space and who can get the farthest first. Soviets started with the lead with Sputnik 1, however when the kept competing it actually brought them together and made the International Space Station. -

This is where the US’s CIA had a plane trying to spy on the Soviets. The Soviets shot it down and this lead to an embarrassing conference between US and Soviets. -

This when Reagan visited the Berlin Wall and says to tear it down.This showed continued commitment to the people of West Berlin. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
This was the the closest that the US and the Soviets actually almost got into fighting. This includes nuclear warfare also. -
Strategic Arms Limitation Talks
Nixon and Brezhnev seemed unlikely candidates for the American and Soviet statesmen who would sign a groundbreaking arms limitation treaty. The United States was looking for help in extricating itself from the unpopular and costly war in Vietnam. Nixon, in particular, wished to take the American public’s mind off the fact that during nearly four years as president, he had failed to bring an end to the conflict. -
Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs invasion begins when a CIA-financed and -trained group of Cuban refugees lands in Cuba and attempts to topple the communist government of Fidel Castro. The attack was an utter failure. -
Soviets invade Afghanistan
The Soviet Union intervened in support of the Afghan communist government in its conflict with anticommunist Muslim guerrillas during the Afghan War . The US and the Soviets each back a different side and this led to the US boycotting the 1980 Olympics. -
Reunited Germany
This where East and west Germany reunited, East Germany was no longer Communist. This was evidence that the War Saw Pact’s days were numbered.
