  • Yalta Conference

    Allies agreed that the liberated nations of Europe would create a democratic government of their own choice. Defeated by Germany they were divided into occupation zones. Germany would pay reperations and the Soviet Union would enter the war against Japan.
  • Truman Doctrine

    It was a doctirne that had the power to over turn the Monroe Doctrine. The Monroe Doctrine was over turned and was the cause and effect that led to the Marshall Plan.
  • Marshall Plan

    The United States allocated money to other countries. the United States did well with tradding during World War 2 so they could afford to loan to other countries.
  • Berlin Airlift

    The Berlin airlift was important to the United States because the United States felt it was essential to get supplies to the people of Berlin. The Unites States also owned a quarter of Berlin meaning that some of Berlins population were considered American citizens.
  • NATO

    NATO was created in order to form a defense of Western Europe from attacks. It was created beign that there had already been two attacks within a thrity year time span.
  • USSR Atomic Bomb

    It is important to know when the USSR has successfully tested a bomb. These bombs are made known so that they can be anticipated and counter changes in Soviet foregin policy which might result therefrom.
  • Korean War Begins

    The Korean war began when Communist North Korea invaded Capitalist South Korea. Both sides saw it as an oppurtunity to gain an advantage in either expanding Communism or expanding Ant-Communism.
  • Rosenberg Spy Case

    The Rosenberg spy case was important becasue it revealed the treason of the Rosenbergs. The Rosenbergs were announced guilty due to smuggled atomic bomb plans sent to the Soviets. the Soviets gained access to atomic weapons there for it was considered treason.
  • East Germany Uprising

    The East German uprisng was important becasue it was the first major upheavel behind the iron curtain. The iron curtain that spread across europe was slowly being lifted.
  • Korean War End

    The Korean wars end helped create allies of countries that used to never tolerate the other till they found a common ground. It also helped turn the tide fo the Cold War.
  • Nikita Krusheve come to power

    Nikita Kruschev denouced Stalins ways. In denouncing Stalin's ways he denounced the purges. NIkita ushered in a less repressive era.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw pact provided stability between conflicting forces NATO and Warsaw. The warsaw pact was also a form of non-nuclear confrontation between allied Soviet adn the United States.
  • Hungarian Uprising

    It was the first uprising stirred by the citizens of Hungary against its occupying Soviet Forces. The first revolt was stared by students of hungary. These prtestsw led to a revolution in which gave them the power to over throw the communist party. Hungary relied on knowing they would recieve help from the west but it never came.
  • Sputnik

    The Sputnik was the first artificial earth orbiting satelite sent up by the Soviets. The Sputnik was sent up into space to measure the density and upper atmosphere. This caused the space race during the Cold War.
  • U-2 incident

    The U-2 incident began a downward spiral of of spy verse spy type diplomacy. This directly led to the collapse of the four power paris summit. The four power paris summit between the United States president and Soviet Premier Niktika Kruschev.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The Bay of Pigs invasion was significant to the Cold War becasue of the American trained Cuban spies sent by the CIA into Cuba. It was significant because in spread the relationship between Cuba and Russia thin. This invasion also sparked the Cuban MIssile Crisis the following year.
  • Berlin Wall Building

    The Berlin Wall divided East and West Germany. It was built and erected to prevent the overflow of skillled manpower from the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) and other Soviet bloc countries into the western controlled sectors of the city and then into the west as a whole.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was the first showdown of the Cold War.
    The Crisis was influenced and acted upon by the United States President had and the United States as a whole. This attitude and leadership amongst the United States showed the Russians they could not just use nuclear weapons.
  • Prague Spring

    The Prague Springs showed the whole world that the satellite communist countries in Eastern Europe neither liked nor unconditionally supported either communism as a systme of government or the Soviet Union as their main ally.
  • Mikhail Gorbechev comes to power

    Mikhail Gorbechev came to power with the ideals of peace in mind. He was an influential leader and was the main reason for the end of the Cold War. Gorbechev eliminated all nuclear threats and made the first move for the end of the Cold War. Gorbechev eliminated the nuclear threats by not delivering nuclear weapons to Soviets in regions of Eastern Europe.
  • Berlin Wall takedown

    The Berlin Wall takedown was the symbolic end of the Cold War. Since the Cold War was a political and social state of being and no declerations were ever declared and no peace treaty could end it. The tearing down of the wall also helped to physically reunite Germany and end much of the vestiges of World War two.
  • German Unification

    The German unification effected the two countries East and West Berlin whcih were set apart and divided by the Berlin wall. The Unification was caused by Monday demonstrations argued whcih were people who argued to open the borders. The openign of borders caused the fall of the Berlin wall.
