  • Nuremberg Trials

    This was the trials of 200 plus Nazi personel, that lasted from 1945 through 1949. Held in Nuremberg, Germany many were sentenced to death for thier superiority in the involvement of the Holocaust. The allies wished to rid of any Nazi belief.

    Cold War

  • The Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan

    U.S President Harry S. Truman pledged in 1947, to help aid military and economical aspects of European nations. He wished to stop the spread of communism. In mid-1947 the U.S goverment launched an aid supplying the economy of Europe. The U.S sent 13 billion to rebuild Europe.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Many Eastern Europeans commuted to Western Europe to work. The Soviets feared westernization and wanted to block all resources to Western Europe, so they built a bloackade, The Berlin Wall in 1948. In 1949 the U.S began to airlift in all supplies to Berlin, known as the Berlin Airlift.
  • NATO

    The U.S surprised at the fact the Soviets have atomic bombs, quickly formed a group including the United States, Canada and Western Europe, called NATO, The North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The purpose of this group was to counter Soviet power, especially in European nations. Not to long after did the Soviets create the Warsaw Pact.
  • Nonaligned Nations

    Many outside nations that were not controlled by the U.S or the Soviets tried to remain nuteral. They knew the two high powers would go to any extent to out run the other. Outside nations were also aware of the consequences of a nucler bomb war.
  • Arms Race

    In 1952 the U.S developed the hydrogen bomb, more efficent than the atomic. One year later the Soviets had developed the same bomb. The two higherpowers were in a race to develope weapons far more advance than the other. The U.S quickly advanced, but was well aware that a warfare with atomic bombs would lead to complete destruction.
  • Sputnik

    In 1957 the Soviets Launched an artifical satellite into earths orbit. Americans believed the always had the uper hand in technology until now. This feared Americans .
  • NASA

    In response to the Soviet Unions advancements, The U.S founded The National Aeronautics and Space Administration. (NASA) They believed this program would put them back on top. This agency did just that.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The Soviets had assembled Missle launchers in Castro, Cuba, very close to florida. When 1,500 cuban men fled the country the U.S recrouted them to invade the Bay of Pigs. The invasion was succesfull and Americans gained semi controll.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    The Soviets had conqured Castro, Cuba and set up missles there. When the U.S invaded they were forced to negoatiate because they both knew warfare with the bombs would leave everything dead. The Soviets agreed to remove the missles as long as the U.S removes the missles in Turkey and does not attack.
