    An international organization that was conceived by the nations of U.S, Britain, China, Soviet Union, and later, France. Its purpose is to address political and military problems and has the power to veto any actions proposed.

  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan

    An economic recovery plan after WW2 that sent over 12$ billion to Europe to prevent them from going communist.
  • NATO

    NATO

    A military alliance formed by the West that pledged to defend each other in the event of an outside attack. The U.S was the leading role and sent massive military aid to Europe.

    When tensions were high, North Korea invaded South Korea which prompted the U.S and the UN to interfere with the conflict to prevent South Korea from becoming Communist.

    The space race was a competition between the United States and the Soviet Union that lasted from 1955 to 1975. The Soviet Union achieved first in space, but the U.S beat the Soviets in more accomplishments later on.

    Following the Korean War, a new Communist North Vietnam was taking control of the South. The U.S sent troops in to fight and push back the Vietnamese but ended up in failure. The conflict lasted from 1955 to 1975.

    The Bay of Pigs invasion was a CIA sponsored invasion that was aimed to topple Fidel Castro with Cuban exiles. The invasion failed as America did not want to look like they were involved in the invasion.

    The Berlin Wall was put up due to the amount of people flocking to the West side of Berlin. The East was experiencing a "brain drain" that was heavily impacting the Eastern economy. A wall was established and many families were separated.

    The Soviets, after failing to create a sympathetic nation to them, invaded Afghanistan to create a new government. It lasted 9 years with the Soviets pulling out of Afghanistan in 1989.

    The Soviet grip on their countries were falling when enough freedom was given by their leader. Half a million East Berliners gathered at the border and the guards had no choice but to let them pass. Many started to topple the wall.
