    North Vietnam invades South Vietnam

    This war was much like the Korean war in the fact that it started because North Vietnam is communist and South is not. So North Vietnam invaded the South in the hopes to make them both communists.
  • The Russians test an atomic bomb

    The Russians test an atomic bomb

    US created the first and only atomic bombs so far, so the Soviet Union soon after decides to do the same. On this day, the Russians successfully tested their first atomic bomb. Making it so that there are two countries with atomic bombs now.
  • The Korean War Begins

    The Korean War Begins

    The Korean was was fought between North & South Korea. On this day, North Korea, trying to spread communism, invades South Korea starting the Korean War. However, the US did not like the idea of communism being spread so they got involved in the war to try and make it stop.
  • The Korean War Ends

    On this day, North and South Korea agreed to finally end the war. Thus leaving the country still heavily divided, with North Korea as communist and South not.
  • Cuba has a revolution

    Cuba has a revolution

    Fidel Castro becomes the president of Cuba because the citizens held a revolution and overthrew their ruler Fulgencio Batista. Castro continually denies that Cuba is communist, but then they become a strong ally of the Soviet Union.

    The Soviet Union, which occupies East Germany now, built a large wall that divided the city of Berlin. The purpose of this was so people who live in East Germany cannot cross over into West Germany.

    The U.S. fails in its attempt to invade Cuba

    The US not likening what they're seeing so far and trying to stop communism in Cuba, tries to invade Cuba at the Bay of Pigs. The invasion is a failure, however, and Castro remains in control of the country.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis begins

    Cuban Missile Crisis begins

    The U.S. discovers that the Soviet Union has put nuclear missiles in Cuba. President John Kennedy demands that the missiles be removed and after 13 days of tense negotiations, Khrushchev, Soviet leader at the time agrees.
  • The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution leads to U.S. involvement in Vietnam

    The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution leads to U.S. involvement in Vietnam

    President Lyndon Johnson butchers the story and tells Congress that U.S. ships were fired on in Vietnam. So Congress agrees to allow the U.S. to get involved in the Vietnam War.
  • North Vietnam wins the Vietnam War

    North Vietnam wins the Vietnam War

    On this day, North Vietnam took control of South Vietnam's capital Saigon, resulting in North Vietnam winning the Vietnam War. The country is now united as one big communist nation.
