    Greek Civil War
    Germans who were still in Greece from ww2 started to withdraw from Greece. Because Stalin wasn't giving any help to the communists. Even they were the powerful group in Greece they still withdrew.

    Chinese Communist Revolution
    The Chinese communist part rose to party during this time. It was established in 1921 but only now had begun to take hold during this time. It happened during the second part of the Chinese civil war.
  • Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    Berlin Blockade and Airlift
    Stalin made an attempt to blockade Berlin starving them from valuable resources such as food and water. So the United States helped supply Berlin. They couldn't deliver it to them by land or sea so they used aircraft to bring food and supplies.

    Food and economic assistance provided to destroyed countries in Europe. They helped to fund the rebuilding of the cuties in Europe. Stalin refused to aid the European countries and forbade them to accept any aid.

    The eastern bloc was a former group of communist countries. These also included some countries from the Warsaw pact. During the end of ww2 the soviet union established communist regimes through central and eastern Europe.

    The Korean war began when north Korea invaded south Korea. They pushed south Korea back to the edge of the Korean peninsula. Until the united states got involved and drove the north Koreans out of the south.

    It was a cold war conflict involving the US and remains of the french colonial government. They were against a Vietnamese communist movement in Vietnam. The US won the war and later had a peace treaty signed.

    The Cuban revolution was an armed rebellion against the regime of fulgencio batista. After a war the rebels led by Fidel Castro gained control of Cuba. This ended the US having control over Cuba's economy.

    In Berlin, West Berlin was democratic and East Berlin was communist. East Germans fled to west Germany before because of the better conditions in west Germany. They eventually built a wall in 1961 to prevent any more Germans from escaping. An Arms race also occurred later in the cold war.

    During the starting years in the cold war thousands of east Germans fled to west Germany. The authorities of east Berlin constructed the a wall to prevent this from happening. The wall completely circled east Germany and got constructed overnight.

    Fidel Castro becomes a communist leader in Cuba. The soviet union plants missiles in Cuba. President John Kennedy blockades cuba and demands that the missiles be removed. Eventually Khrushchev backs out of Cuba and the missiles are torn down. The Soviet union and the USA then sign a test ban treaty.

    The war in Afghanistan lasted over 9 years. A group of insurgents who were call the the mujahideen fought a guerrilla war against the soviets.This happened during the cold war.

    There were riots and people demand that the Berlin wall be taken down. The gates of the wall were opened. Then the wall came down on November 1989.

    Tiananmen Square Massacre
    This was a protest lasting several weeks in Beijing. Chinese troops entered the Tienanmen square and fired on the civilians. The estimated death toll ranges from the hundreds to the thousands.

    The collectivized agriculture wasn't productive enough. As well as Soviet goods being rubbish compared to the goods of the western market economies. It also fell because of a huge bureaucracy that produced unwanted goods.
