After the Second World War, an international organization called the United Nations was founded in order to promote international peace and security and form friendly relationships. 51 countries joined the United Nations in hopes of better living conditions for their citizens. -
On March 12, 1947, President Truman delivered a speech along with the Truman Doctrine announcing that since the British Government is no longer providing assistance to the Greek Government Truman suggested Congress to provide assistance for the Greek Government against the Communist Party and Turkey. In Truman’s speech, he requested that Congress provide $400 million of aid to both Greek and Turkish Governments.
