    Yalta Conference
    Description: Meeting between Winston Churchill, PM of England, Joseph Stalin, leader of Soviet Russia, and U.S. President F.Roosevelt. In the meeting, which was held towards the end of WWII, they made plans for a post war world. They also decided Germany's unconditional surrender would be needed, and USSR entered war against Japan.

    Description: In 1945, U.S. created and successfully tested the first A-bomb. Not knowing the consequences, and as revenge for Pearl Harbor, the U.S. bombs Hiroshima and Nagaski, Japan. The boming although unfortunate, brings and end to WWii.

    Churhill "Iron Cutrtain" Speech
    Description: In the post WWII world, the main issue of tension was Communism. In 1946, Churchill delivbers his famous "Iron Curtain Speech. in which he calls out the Soviets policies in Eastern European affairs. Also seen as Churchill publily declaring the start of the Cold War era.

    Truman Doctrine
    Description: The Truman Doctrine was created under President Truman in 1947. The doctrine entered U.S. into foreign affairs, stating that the U.S. would help other countries that were facing Communism/ S.U. This doctrine was viewed by Communists as U.S.'s declaration of war.

    U.S. announces Marshall Plan
    Description: the Marshall Plan, orginally known as the European Recovery Program, was created by the U.S in order to help post war Europe and Asia. According to the Marshall Plan, the U.S gave $13 billion in loan to countries in Europe and Asia. This money helped them in rebuilding their economy.

    Berlin Blockade and Airlift
    Description: The Berlin blockade and airlift in 1947 was the Soviet Union's attempt to block out the U.S., France, and England from entering the parts of Germany under Russian control. In order for this to work out the S.U. built the Berlin wall, dividing the city ruthlessly. To supply the people of Berlin, the U.S.flew in food and supplies.

    Sputnik launched - Space Race begins
    Description: Within the same Cold War era, the Space Race took place between the U.S and S.U. The goal of the race was to see who was the greater super power by getting to the moon first. When Russia launched the Sputnik, they were seen as the greater super power, but not for long.

    Communist overtake of Czechoslovakia
    Description: In 1948, Communism overtook Czechoslovakia. U.S.'s ultimate fear of the Domino effect seemed to be coming true. The coup d'etat in Czech caused the Communist overtake. Communism remained in Czech till the Velvet Rev, where the turned to democracy.

    NATO established
    Description: The NATO, North Atlantic Trade Organization, was established in 1949, between North Atlantic countries. It was an agreement in which if any one of the fellow countries were to be attacked the other would help out. The NATO is still a highly viewed military allegiance.

    Description: When the U.S. flat our refused to give Russia the recipe to a perfect a-bomb, they decided to make their own. Surprising the rest of the world, USSR came out with their first a-bomb in 1949. This event made it clear that the two super powers shoiuldn't go to war.

    Description: In 1950, Senator McCarthy began what would be called the modern WitcH Hunt. McCarthy accused those who were thought to be Communists in the U.S. in order to protect the nation. Many, however, ended up being innocent, and were blacklised or lost their jobs.

    Description: The Korean War occurred in 1950 where the North and South where split against each other. The North who preffered Communism worked with the USSR while the South allied the U.S. The war began when North Korea invaded the South. The war ended with a nation split between itself.     Description: As an attempt to further prevent Communism spreading and taking over Vietnam U.S send advisors to Vietnam. The war adivsors pitted Vietnamese people against each other in order to gain a Communism free nation. One of the bloodiest wars during the Cold War.

    Description: Rosenbergs were U.S. citizens who were executed for espionage. The two were Russian spies involved in passing on information to the SU on the a-bomb. Sadly, the Rosenbergs were only 2 of the hundreds of other spies during the time.

    Description: The Warsaw Pact was USSR's response to US's NATO. Similar to the NATO, the Pact established oppostion to Democracy and proved a strong component of Communism.

    Description: Cuba was finally taken over by its brutal dictator Castro in 1959. Under Castro's lead, many people followed him into an armed revolt against the then president and took over the goverrnment. Castro goes onto support the USSR.

    Description: After the take over of Cuba by Castro there was an attempt to gain it back. In 1961, Cuban exiles attempted to invade Cuba with U.S. support.     Berlin Wall erected
    Description: In order to better the Berlin Blockade, USSR builts the Berlin Wall. Separating west and east Berlin made life miserable for the millions living there. The USSR built the wall primarily to keep out the U.S., France, and England.

    Description: In 1962, Cuba was suspected to be helping out USSR. With the help of U.S. spy planes the U.S was able to discover that Cuba was storing missile for the USSR. This lead to stronger enemity between the two nations.

    President Kennedy Assasinated
    Description: President Kennedy was assasinated in 1963. While in an open car parade through Dalas, Tx, Kenedy was shot through the head and died soon after. It is believed Kennedy was assassinated due to a conspiracy.
