The Berlin wall was built by the German Democratic Republic during the Cold War. It was built in order to prevent the people of the Soviet Union controlled East Berlin from migrating into the capitalist society of the American/U.K. controlled West Berlin. Just like all the other countries near Russia at the time, East Berlin was under Communist control. The economy of West Berlin was very depressed and the citizens there could afford very few luxuries.

This showed the conflict that was going on between the US and Soviet Union at the time. The US were constantly trying to stop the spread of communism while the Soviet Union were trying to spread the form of government even more. This was a major win for the US since the construction of the Berlin Wall showed that communism was very flawed and the Soviet Union was forced to build a wall in order to keep their people in.

The Olympic Final game was between the 4 time defending gold medal winning Soviet team and the underdog US hockey team that was made up of college players. The Soviet Union ended up losing to the US because of a late winner scored by Mike Eruzione. This was a great victory for the US because it showed everyone that even if the Soviet Union was a stronger military power we still could win this war. People also saw this game as a symbol of democracy being better than a communist government.

US troops were sent into the island of Grenada to protect US citizens that were there at the time. We also invaded the base in order to make sure that the island was not being used as a base for the Soviet Union's and Cuba's aggression towards the western hemisphere. This is a great example of what was going on during the Cold War because the US was doing everything they could do to contain the spread of communism even to smaller countries like Grenada.
