    US creates and tests the hydrogen bomb
    Hydrogen bombs rely on the fusion reactions including isotopes of hydrogen. US is one of six countries that have created hydrogen bomb tests. The US created and tested a hydrogen bomb because they were not getting along with the Soviet Union at the time because they both were not coming to an agreement about international arm agreements.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was created so Europe knew that the US had their back; basically after WWII it was agreed that the US will help rebuild the European economies. It took four years of opperation to complete the Marshall Plan. This plan was also to prevent the spread of Soviet communism. After WWII the US was given $13 billion to help recover Europe.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Soviet Union put up the Berlin Wall/Blockade to block the people of Berlin from everything. The Berliners were blocked from food, fuel, railways, roads, and canals. The Western Allies were in control of the Berliners, they had to get food to them somehow so they used multiple aircrews to help get all necessities over the Berlin blockade. The aircrews made over 200,000 trips over the blockade in one year.
  • Creation of NATO

    NATO stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which this treaty was signed April 4th, 1949. This treaty is to agree to have mutual defense when an attack from an external party takes place. There are 28 states across North America to Europe that are a part of this treaty.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean war was between the Republics of South Korea and the Democratics of North Korea. This resulted in the division of Korea and Japan taking over. The division between the two was deepened because the elections failed in 1948. The border between both of the Korean states is the 38th parallel.
  • Creation of the Warsaw Pact

    Creation of the Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was a treaty between eight communist states of Europe. The treaty was established by the Soviet Union and signed May 14th, 1955. The Pact was to help military complement. The West Germany integration was the cause of this treaty.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam war was part of the Cold war, it was fought between North Vietnam vs. South Vietnam and US. North Vietnam won this war, and also withdrew American forces from Indochina. The victory of North Vietnam resulted in some territorial changes, which was just unifying both North and Southern Vietnam together and calling it the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

    The Bay of Pigs was a failed military invasion of Cuba.The unsuccessful invasion resulted in strengthening Cuba's administration and embarrassing the US. This caused an over abundance of tension between the US and Cuba.
  • The Berlin Wall Goes Up

    The Berlin Wall Goes Up
    East Germany built the Berlin wall to keep West Berlin out and away from East Germany, it was also built to prevent emigration and defection. Berliners referred to this wall as "The wall of shame". Where the Berliners were trapped consisted of trenches, fakir beds (bed of nails), and other defences. The Berlin wall was surrounded by many guards and guard towers so noone could escape.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a warning to two sides, one the Soviet Union and Cuba, and the other side the United States. This was a major confrontation of the Cold War. This almost resulted as a nuclear conflict. This took place to have a discussion about the major international arms agreement. A lot of nuclear missiles were withdrew by Cuba, Italy and Turkey from the US, and the Soviet Union. This resulted in the US agreeing never to invade Cuba again without direct reason.
  • The Six Day War

    The Six Day War
    The six day war was fought between Israel, Jordan, and Syria. The war began with Israel surprise bombing Egyptian air-fields and then lead into the West-Bank in which Jordan owns, and aerial clashes over Syria land. Israel was victorious in this war and also won force over the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, West-Bank, East Jerusalem, and Golan Heights.
  • 1980 Olympic Hockey game

    1980 Olympic Hockey game
    Also known as "Miracle on Ice" took place in Lake Placid, New York on February 22nd, 1980. The US team defeated the Soviet team; which was unlikely because the Soviet team had won close toevery world championship and Olympic tournament since 1954. Which is how this game got the nick-name "Miracle on Ice".

    The US invaded Grenada (a carribean island nation), it ended in weeks with US winning. The results of this was a little restoration of the constitutional government. Many people were wounded during this time.
  • German Reunification/Fall of Berlin Wall

    The German Reunification was when East Germany joined West Germany, which also reunited Berlin by collapsing the Berlin wall. German Unity is now celebrated on October 3rd which is referred to as German Unity Day.
  • Collapse of the Soviet Union

    Collapse of the Soviet Union
    The Soviet Union began to collapse because of the declaration of Soviet of Republics. The declaration announced independence to all 15 republics of the soviet union.
