  • The Long Telegram

    A telegram by U.S. diplomat George F. Kennan during the administration of U.S. President Harry Truman. The telegram was uses to communicate the policy of containment to the ussr.
  • Iron curtain speech

    The iron curtain speech was delivered by Churchill in missouri where he stressed the necessity of the United States and Britain to act as guardians of peace against the “iron Curtain of Communism across Europe.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine would state that any country under democratic influence would receive assistance. The main goal of the Truman Doctrine was to contain communism.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Following WW2 Berlin was separated into sections. The western portion was controlled by Russia. the Russians who wanted Berlin all for themselves closed all highways, railroads and canals from western-occupied Germany into western-occupied Berlin. The goal being to drive out Britain,France, and the U.S. However instead of leaving Germany U.S and its allies decided to supply the enclosed Berlin with supplies via planes. This lasted for over a year.
  • Marshall Plan

    The Marshall plan, also known as the, European recovery program provided recovery for Europe following the destruction of WW2. This four year plan was enacted by the United States and provided more that $15 billion.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War (1950-1953) began when the North Korean Communist army crossed the 38th Parallel and invaded non-Communist South Korea. The war technically never ended because neither side sighed the peace treaty.

    The Geneva conference was intended to settle issues that remained after the Korean war. The conference led to the formation of the Democratic republic of Vietnam.
  • Suez Crisis

    Israeli armed forces pushed Egypt towards the Suez canal after Egypt nationalized the canal that controlled two thirds of the oil used by Europe. The U.S and Britain intervene.
  • Hungarian Uprising

    After thousands of protesters took to the streets of Hungary demanding a more democratic system of government, communist party officials tried to restore peace and asked the Soviets to withdraw their troops and than announced that Hungary is withdrawing from the Warsaw pact. Than in November Soviet tanks rolled into Budapest to crush the national uprising.
  • Camp David Meeting

    Nikita Khrushchev and u.s President Dwight D. Eisenhower meet at Camp David to discuss the cold war, specifically Germany and Berlin. After two days of meetings, the two leaders “agreed that these discussions have been useful in clarifying each other’s position on a number of subjects.”
  • Bay Of Pigs

    Failed attack launched by the CIA to a full-scale invasion of Cuba by 1,400 American-trained Cubans who had fled their homes when Castro took over. However The invaders were badly outnumbered by Castro’s troops, and they surrendered after less than 24 hours of fighting.

    American deployments of missiles in Italy and Turkey were matched by Soviet deployments of similar ballistic missiles in Cuba

  • JFK assasination

    John Fitzgerald Kennedy was fatally shot in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza. "No, you certainly can't" – were his last words.
  • Prague Spring

    A period of political liberalization and mass protest in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. This occurred as a result of Warsaw Pact members invading the country to suppress the reforms.
  • Fall of Saligan end of Vietnam

    The south Vietnam Ho chi min city falls to the peoples army of Vietnam and the viet cong forcing south Vietnam to surrender and creating a cease fire.
  • Berlin Wall Collapsed

    The cold war began to thaw across Europe. The spokesperson for East Berlins Communist party announced that starting midnight, citizens were free to cross the countries boarders. East and West Berliners flocked to the wall marking an end to the Cold War symbolically.
