Berlin airlift
After world war two Germany was divided up and controlled by u.s british, and soviet forces. Berlin was located in the soviet zone. There was a crisis in Berlin started june 24th were Berlin was completly out of all supplies. Such as gas, water, and food. So the United states and united kingdom decided to do airlifts into Berlin carrying the needed supplies. The crisis ended on may 12, 1949 when Soviet's lifted the blockade on land acces to western berlin. -
The Korean War
The Korean war was fought during the 1950's between the united nations, and north korea. At this time north Korea was also know as the communist democratic peoples republic. The war began when north Korea invaded south Korea. -
hydrogen bomb
after the Soviet union creates a nuclear bomb in 1949 the Us decides they need something stronger and better. So they create a hydrogen bomb this is roughly 1,000 times stronger than the normal bomb at that time. The inventer of the bomb was J. Robert Oppenheimer. they tested this bomb on Eniwetok atoll in the pacific. which this really heated up the arms race. -
Vietnam war
the Vietnam war took place from 1955-1975. The U.S and French both found themselves there. They were in Vietnam to fight off communism and at that time American govornment and politions were caught up in a therory called the "domino theory" which meant that if one country falls to communism other countries will follow in vietnams footsteps. So America thought by going to vietnam it would stop communism. But it was one of the worst wars in american history. With thousands of civilian casualities. -

Sputnik 1 was a Soviet Union earth satalite. Not only that but it was the first ever satelite into space.It was a 58 cm polished round sphere. and Four radio antenas to broadcast the radio. when in orbit it was 359 miles up in the sky. -

The berlin wall was completed in 1961 and was in use up until 1989. It was a concrete barier to divide East and West berlin. It was built by what was the east German government. To keep the east part of berlin out of the west. -
olympic basketball game
Ever since basketball became a olympic sport the U.S dominated from 1936 up until the game of 1972. Going into the final game in munich the U.S had a record of 63-0 and were the favorite to win this game as well. However the Soviets had one this game no more than one point on a buzzer beater game winning shot. That had American fans outraged and thinking and saying the play was not legit.
