    Truman Doctrine
    This was a political speech held by Truman, his goal was to eradicate Greece and Turkey from being persuaded of being communist. He was to pay and provide aid and help to those who did not follow this totalitarianism government order with the soviets. From a political aspect this was an amazing help to the US stopping these 2 countries turning communism and was a successful push by Truman.

  • Marshell Plan

    Marshell Plan
    Much similar to the Truman Doctrine, the US sacrificed nearly $13 billion in order to stop Europe from turning communist. George Marshall wanted to help rebuild Europe after the second world war. Unfortunately at an economical waste, Eastern Europe and the Soviets declined the aid we sent. This further impacted the war causing dispute between Europe and America.   • Comecon

    Comecon
    Comecon was how the Soviet Union responded to the Marshall plan suggested but the US. They could not offer any money so they offered social help, making life better through communism, and giving any medical or governmental aid they needed.     The Korean War was when North Korea decided to invade South Korea. America sent aid to South Korea, China and the Soviets sent aid to North Korea. despite 2 countries not even part of the war, the US and Russia still managed to get involved and still be on the opposite sides.
  • U2 Spy Plane Incident

    U2 Spy Plane Incident
    U2 spy planes were used frequently and sent over Russia and took top down pictures of the land to see anything going on. Although at one point a u2 spy plane was spotted by the USSR and they immediately shot it down, fortunately the pilot survived and the remains of the jet are still in Russia to this day.     Bay of Pigs Invasion
    The Bay of Pigs invasion was dubbed the "Perfect Failure" because this was when the US trained 1400 cuban soldiers who disagreed with Castro and his ways and sent them in to invade Cuba.     Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was and extremely close time when the Soviets and US almost started a nuclear war. Luckily they both secretly didn't want to do this and pulled out of it by making an agreement to remove the nukes that the US sent to turkey and the USSR sent to Cuba. The is geographical because it was based in other countries and how important where you allies are matters.

    The Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was a very good thing that was signed between multiple countries to not test nukes anywhere. Had this not been signed, we may have gone to a nuclear war at some point.     The Space Race was probably the most important part of the whole Cold War and the most widely known. America was way behind the Soviets on space technologies, so JFK promised that within the decade they would get a man on the moon, and they did before the USSR.     USSR Beats US in Olympic Basketball
    One of the biggest upsets in sports history, the olympic basketball game where the undefeated US team lost to the soviets in the olympics. This was a social competition and affected the people of America more than governments.     The Berlin Wall was what split west and east Berlin, Germany. This wall split so many things and caused so much harm that when it came down, it was a historical event.     Malaysian Airlines Passenger Plane Shot Down
    This was a recent event that occurred in the year 2014, a simple Malaysian Airlines flight with innocent people was dying over Ukraine and they instantly shot it down suspecting it to be a US missile strike.
