Red scare
For many Americans, the most enduring symbol of this “Red Scare” was Republican Senator Joseph R. McCarthy of Wisconsin. Senator McCarthy spent almost five years trying in vain to expose communists and other left-wing “loyalty risks” in the U.S. government. It was not until he attacked the Army in 1954 that his actions earned him the censure of the U.S. Senate. -

The Berlin Blockade was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War. During the multinational occupation of post–World War II Germany, the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under Western control. -

The U.S and Soviets were in an arms race. Continent skipping ballistic missile they were after. The race turned into Moon race where the technological symbol was important to achieve. -
U-2 Incident
A spy plane deployed by the U.S was shot down. The plane crashed and the pilot was captured by the Soviets. It was right before the east-west summit. The hope for peace were shattered in an instant. -

Soviets sent nuclear missiles to Cuba. The event where the nuclear conflict almost broke out. -
Non-Proliferation Treaty
The treaty was to disarm every country to destroy every nuclear weapon in general. Where other countries would feel safer than ever. -
Perestroika and Glasnost
Perestroika was trying to reform a movement within the Communist party. He independently made market-like deals with ministries. His speech and his idea ended the Cold War in 1991.
