The Warsaw Pact was created on May 14 of 1955, and was the communist side that wanted to spread communism. -

Canadian diplomat and politician Lester Pearson won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1956 for organizing a peacekeeping force to defuse the Suez Crisis. -
Berlin Wall is Built
The Berlin Wall was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) on August 13, 1961, that completely cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin. -
