    On April 12, 1945, Truman was transferred into office to become President when Roosevelt died. Some didn't think that Truman was fit to be president.

    The United Nations is an organization making an effort to create world peace, especially because of the end of World War 2. Representatives from 50 different nations came together to create this organization on April 25, 1945, but it wasn't established until June 26, 1945.
  • The Potsdam Conference

    The Potsdam Conference
    The US, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union all met for a conference in Potsdam. The outcome of the conference was the Soviet Union stopping free elections, and quit allowing democratic parties.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine is when Truman asked for 400 million dollars in financial and military aid for Greece and Turkey. Congress decided that the Truman Doctrine was essential to keeping "Soviet Influence" at a minimum. This resulted in a huge reduction of Communist danger of them taking over in those places.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    Many people were living in refugee camps, while the government was trying ot resettle them. There was also a very harsh winter from 1946-1947 which impacted the resettlement greatly. The US proposed a deal to provide financial aid to European countries to help out, and this was called the Marshall Plan. This increased hopes for the Europeans, and had made the Communist choice lose many votes.
  • NATO Alliance

    NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. There were 12 members of this organization, which all were allies and promised military support just in case any other member's nation was attacked. The Cold War ended any hope for US isolationism to return.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift was the reason that many people across the wall got help during World War II. The Berlin Airflift flew 227,000 flights, which included things such ranging from food, fuel, medicine, supplies, and even Christmas Presents. People survived through World War II because of this airlift.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Soviet Union and seven of it's other European "satellites" signed a treaty making a mutual defense organization, which made Soviets in command of the military of the member states. In March of 1991, the pact was diminishing, and in June, it's members had their last meeting.
