    Creation of the Marshall Plan
    It was the USA's plan named after George Marshall and its aim was to offer economic aid to European countries for the reason to prevent the spread of communism.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The USA's aim was to stop the spread of communism because according to the domino theory, if a communist government appears in one country, it will quickly lead to communists taking over the neighboring states as well.
  • Creation of the COMECON

    It was the Council for Mutual Economic Aid and was created by the communist states (USSR and countries of the Eastern Block). It determined what each state could produce.
  • Establishment of the NATO

    Establishment of the NATO
    North Atlantic Treaty Organization was a defensive military alliance between the countries of the Western World led by the USA. It ensured military support in case of a foreign (communist) attack.
  • German Federal Republic

    After the blockade of Berlin, two German states were created, one of them was the German Federal Republic with Konrad Adenauer as chancellor. It was democracic and they managed to restore the economy.
  • German Democratic Republic

    After the blockade of Berlin, two German states were created, one of them was the German Democratic Republic with Berlin as capital. It was communist.
  • Death of Stalin

    Stalin died in 1953, Nikita Khrushchev became the new general secretary and the de-Stalinization started.
  • Cease fire agreement in Panmunjon

    Korea was divided into two parts, North Korea (communist) and South Korea (democratic) and the communists wanted to invade South Korea but the USA and UN managed to stop it and the cease fire agreement was signed.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    It is a defensive military alliance between the countries of the Eastern Block led by the USSR. They offered mutual defense and assistance.
  • Hotline between the leaders

    A hotline between the American and the Soviet leaders was created after the Cuban Missile Crisis because they realized that both of them had a nuclear bomb and they would all die in case of a war.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    A a resoult of the Second Berlin Crisis, the Berlin Wall was built to seperate East and West Berlin. It became the symbol of the Cold War.
  • Brezhnev Doctrine

    It ensured that the Soviet Union had the right to interfere in the internal affairs of its satellites when any threat to socialism appeared. They invaded Czechoslovakia becuse of this.
  • SALT I

    Strategic Arms Limitation Talks the USA and the USSR agreed on arm control - tehy limited the number of nuclear weapons.
  • Helsinki Accords

    An international conference was called in Helsinki where they agreed on peaceful settlement of disputes, non-intervention in internal affairs and respect for human rights and basic freedoms, equal rights and self-determination of peoples.
  • SALT II

    Strategic Arms Limitation Talks where the USA and the USSR introduced arm control.
  • Strategic Defense Initiative

    Strategic Defense Initiative
    The "Star Wars Plan" with space-based weapons to protect the USA from nuclear missiles. The USSR could not get into this competition because of its lack of money.
  • Summit in Malta

    George Bush and Gorbachev met and announced the end of the cold war.
