The East-Germany wanted to protect its population and keep it stable. But a wall, would surely not keep people away. In fact, the wall had guns, yes guns. The Berlin wall had also included guard towers placed along the wall so they can ensure no riots would occur, and no one would pass by.

It was a dangerous time, because the Soviet Unions placed Nuclear warheads in Cuba. It was suppose to be a secret, but it was soon discovered. On January 23, 1968, Pueblo (a navy ship) was attacked. The Koreans were attacking the USS PUEBLO. The koreans boarded the ship, and captured the people who were on the ship, and took them to POW camps, where they were beaten, and interrogated. On December 23, 1968, the prisoners were released, and let back into the United States. However, the Koreans still have the USS PUEBLO to this day.

On November 4, 1979, 52 American citizens were kidnapped by Iranian students outside the U.S embassy in Tehran. The United States had tried to rescue the hostages, but failed multiple times. At one point during a rescue, 8 servicemen died in a helicopter crash. On 1-19-1981, the United States and Iran signed an agreement to have the hostages be released. The following day, the hostages were released. The event took 444 days.
