    this was an effect of the Cold War as it was created to protect and assist our foreign policy and military against our foreign neighbors. (Specifically Soviet Russia)
  • Marshall Plan

    This would have increased tensions between the US and Soviet Russia because the US used it to make communism look bad. This would upset Russia, who had been trying to spread communism
  • Berlin Airlift

    This would cause tension to increase, as half of Berlin was taken by Russia, the US would infiltrate their territory by air to give supplies to the people.
  • NATO

    NATO would create tension between the US and Russia as it contained the US and other countries from western Europe who were against the spread of communism and wanted to contain in.
  • Korean War

    This would create tension as after Japan had taken control of Korea, the US supported the South and Russia supported the north. Russia would go to take over the Southern part of Korea while the US and the rest of the UN would send over troops to prevent this, behind Russia's back.

    This was a definite cause to increased tensions between the US and Soviet Russia. The very definition of Brinkmanship is to push until the brink of war. Both sides would be on constant edge that the other was going to attack immediately

    This would increase tensions because Soviet Russia was combining itself with other eastern European nations that were under communism to fight against the US and those of NATO.
  • Eisenhower Doctrine

    The Eisenhower Doctrine was an effect of the Cold War. It was used as a form of quarantine of communism. The US would help any nation in the middle east that needed help to resist the spread of communism.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    Sputnik caused tension during the Cold War. The reason being, as it was the first artificial satellite launched by Soviet Russia, the US had no idea what it did and thought it could be being used to spy on the nation.
  • The U-2 Incident

    This could create more tension between Soviet Russia and the US, because an American plane had been shot down over Russia, who had suspected it was a spy plane. The plane and the pilot were captured and Russia demanded to know why the US sent a spy, to which we completely and utterly denied.

    A cause of the Cold War could have included the Bay of Pigs. Cuban exiles who sided with the US attempted to overthrow Fidel Castro, which failed. This created embarrassment for the US and further pushed Cuba to Communism.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis created an increase in tension between the US and Soviet Russia. During the Cold War, Soviet Russia began aiding Cuba by placing weapons in on the land. This caused alarm for the US, who demanded immediate removal of said weapons. The US ended up blocking Cuba from the world and Soviet Russia backed down on the terms that neither they, nor the US will take control of Cuba.

    This decreased tensions between the the US and Soviet Russia during the Cold War. This made the statement that nuclear weapons shall not be tested above ground, though the US began testing in water.
