    What: The USA bombed the Japanese city of Nagasaki.

    What: Truman stated that the US would help countries not under authoritarian rule by giving them military, political, and economic assistance.

    Effect on the cold war: The USA was helping countries that were not under an authoritarian government. It made the USA look stronger.
    Effect on liberalism: The countries the USA was helping got more freedoms because they didn't have to worry as much about poverty.

    What: Stalin died from the result of a stroke at the age of 74.

    What: A soviet agreement with their allies to cancel out NATO. It was signed by the Soviet Union, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania.

    Effect on the cold war: The Soviet Union was making more alliances to cancel out NATO.
    Effect on liberalism: The people from the countries in the agreement get more freedom, but the US and their alliance have less.

    What: An organization between Canada and the USA to provide aerospace warning, protection from Northern America, and air sovereignty.

    Effect on the cold war: The US and Canada were protecting themselves from Soviet bombing attacks.
    Effect on liberalism: Canada and the Us had more freedoms while the Soviet Union had less.

    What: He was a socialist who took over the US's supporting government. They received help from the USSR because the US would not help them.

    Effect on cold war: The Soviet Union has yet another threatening alliance. This alliance actually scared the US, so they put more soldiers there.
    Effect on liberalism: The Cuban's had fewer freedoms because they were now under the communist ruling.

    What: It was an attempt to get rid of Fidel Castro in Cuba.

    Effect on the cold war: It was an attempt to get rid of the communist government and go back to the way it was.
    Effect on liberalism: The Cuban exiles had fewer freedoms because they were being forced to fight their people to overthrow their old government.

    What: the falling of the Berlin wall dividing east and west Germany. What effect it had: It was the signaling of the end of the iron curtain.
