    The state of Israel was established by David Ben-Gurion. David Ben-Gurion was the head of Jewish agency. This nation was created to establish a homeland for the Jews so that they could have somewhere to call their home.     NATO stand for the National Atlantic Treat Organization. NATO is a military alliance between several North American and European states.NATO is made up of the US and 11 other nations.     This war started when North Korean forces invaded South Korea at the 38th parallel. This invasion was the first military action of the Korean War. The US joined in because they feared the spread of communism. There was about 5 million deaths including soldiers and civilians and the peninsula is still divided up to this very day.     The Vietnam War was a very long war between North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and the United States. More than 3 million people were killed in this war. Most of the deaths were Vietnamese civilians.     Domino Theory
    This is a theory that if one nation fell to communism, then other nations would rapidly fall to communism right after. The United States thought this was very important during the Vietnam War because they did not want communism spreading.   • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    This court case takes place in Topeka, Kansas. This case overturned provisions of the Plessy v. Ferguson case. This court case made it legal illegal to have segregated schools.   • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was sign in Warsaw, and the countries that were involved with it include Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. This treaty says if anybody tries to mess with us, then the outside state will come to the defense of each other. The Warsaw Pact is a response to the United States' NATO "The Warsaw Pact Is Formed."     Montgomery Bus Boycott

    In Montgomery, Alabama, the African Americans decided to not ride the buses in the city to protest segregated seating. This protest lasted 381 days. It also cost the city a lot of money sense nobody was spending money to ride the bus. The U.S Supreme Court made Montgomery, Alabama integrate the buses so that all races could ride together.     Little Rock Nine
    Nine African American students enrolled at what use to be an all white school. They did this to see what was going to happen because of the supreme court case that made segregation in school illegal.   • Launching of Sputnik

    Launching of Sputnik
    The soviets launched their first aircraft into space, and it was name Sputnik. This started the Space Age. Sputnik is the worlds first artificial satellite. Sputnik is Russian for satellite.     Greensboro Sit-ins

    This was a nonviolent protest by a few African American students at a place to eat in North Carolina. They sat in the "white only" part of the restaurant and their actions made others do they same. This made more people stand up to spread equality and eventually the store had to chance its segregation rules. Many people did not agree with what they were trying to do. History.com Staff.   • U-2 Spy Incident

    U-2 Spy Incident
    This incident involves the United States and the Soviet Union. The US sent out a spy plane because they did not really know if the could trust the Soviet's yet. The Soviet's shot down a U-2 spy plane flying over Russia scouting out what they were up to. They also captured the pilot of the plane a put him in jail.     This all starts when Fidel Castro drove his army into Havana to overthrow General Fulgencio Batista. After this happens, the CIA tries to push Castro out of power by trying to invade Cuba.   • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    The Freedom Riders consisted of 13 African American and white civil rights supporters. They rode buses through the racist south to protest segregation. These African Americans received tremendous amounts of hate towards them.   • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The wall was starting to be built on August 13, 1961 by the government in east Germany. This wall was built to keep the people from West Germany separated from the people form East Germany.     The United States and the Soviet Union competed in an intense nuclear standoff over installation of Russian missiles on Cuba. This crisis was all over the news when the people turned on their TV's. Everybody in the whole United States thought we were about to be involved in a nuclear war with the Soviets.     "I Have a Dream" Speech
    Martin Luther King spoke in front of the Abraham Lincoln statue during a peaceful rally called the March on Washington. In this speech Martin Luther King says how one day, he hopes his kid get to see a world where racism does not exist. He said that all men are created equal no matter the color of ones skin.     JFK was riding down the road in Dallas Texas in an open top convertible with his wife beside him. They were driving slow and waving at the crowds of people. JFK was shot by Harvey Oswald from the sixth floor of a book depository center. If you watch the video, you can see JFK's wife picking up pieces of his skull and brains from off the car "John F.     Freedom Summer
    Civil rights organizations got together a voter registration drive to increase the amount of people that vote in Mississippi. They were composed of mainly African Americans from Mississippi and some white out of state volunteers. People showed Freedom Summer a lot of hate and were not happy in what they were trying to accomplish. They were violently attacked and beaten. Murder was also included. History.com Staff.   • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Civil Rights Act of 1964
    President John F. Kennedy came up with this idea and Lyndon B. Johnson carried it on from JFK and got it signed. This act put an end to segregation in public places. It also put an end to segregation in the workforce. You cannot turn somebody down because of their skin color.     Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    The Gulf of Tonkin resolution gave Lyndon B. Johnson the right to declare war without approval from congress. They were planning for attacks in the North and Johnson knew that people were not going to agree with them things that he did.     Malcom X did not do things the way that Martin Luther King Jr. did. MLK was all about peace and nonviolence. Malcom X on the other thought that violence was the key to doing things.     Bloody Sunday in Selma, AL

    Around 600 people were going to go on a peaceful march for bettering the voting rights. Right when they were about to start the march, the police brutally attacked civil rights marchers to try to get the to stop protesting.     Voting Rights Act of 1965
    This act, signed my Lyndon B. Johnson, aimed to voting barriers that hindered African Americans from voting. This means that there was no more poll tax or literacy test.     Executive Order 11246: Affirmative Action
    This order was signed by Lyndon B. Johnson. The order says that you cannot deny somebody employment just because of their skin color. This promotes equal employment opportunity.   • Loving v. Virginia

    Loving v. Virginia
    Mildred Jeter and Richard loving was an interracial couple. Virginia laws said that black and whites could not get marries, so they decided to go to Washington D.C. to get married.   • MLK Assassination

    MLK Assassination
    Martin Luther King was one of the biggest, if not the biggest people in the Civil Rights Movement. He led many nonviolent protest about how we are all equal, and nobody should be discriminated against because of their skin. He was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee and his death made a whole lot of African Americans mad that supported him. The bullet hit him in the neck while he was on a balcony

    This act is popularly known as the Fair Housing Act. This act prohibited discrimination concerning rental and housing based of color of skin. They quickly passed this act after the assassination of the great civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr. This act is thought of as the last great achievement of the Civil Rights Era.     It is described as the "grooviest event in music history". This is where we start to see people who we call hippies. There were so many people trying to get into the gates that they just started letting people in for free. There was a bunch of people to show up to this concert.
