    Two groups in Greece had fought somewhat together during WW2, but they weren't completely in sync. These two groups would come to fight for power in Greece, one being communist and the other being democratic. The British forces had tried to unite them under a coalition but it ended with the two fighting; the communist admit defeat.

    Formation of the Eastern Bloc

    The Eastern Bloc was created by the Soviets by invading and annexing countries. All this was possible in the final stages of World War 2. After annexation, the Soviet Union would call these states Soviet Socialist Republics.

    Germany was divided into zones after the war concluded. The zones were ran or claimed by Britain, America, France, and the U.S.S.R. Since the country itself was split between these countries, the capital had also been split in the same way. The split also created a conflict as one part of Berlin had been sealed off by a wall named The Berlin Wall, created some tensions between communism.

    Officially named European Recovery Program, the Marshall plan was put in place after the second world war. This plan had been sponsored by the U.S. to help eastern and southern countries in Europe. Secretary of state George Marshall brought up this plan in 1947 proposing the U.S. help economically.

    The Soviets had cut off all access the Western Allies had to their sides of Berlin such as railways and canals. This resulted in many civilians not being able to get basic supplies and needs. Western Berlin, however, did get the supplies through a planned out airlift from the western powers.

    This revolution resulted in the Chinese Communist Party finally declaring victory over the Nationalist Party/Kuomintang. The revolution also brought the creation of the People's Republic of China. This conversion to communism ended all ties with the U.S. that China had for some time.

    The war between North and South Korea happened after 75,000 North Korean troops had stormed the border between the two. By that time American troops would then help the South Koreans against the North as a way of fighting communism. This war gained very little attention and was informally deemed the "Forgotten War."

    The history of Cuba is long and events occur that ultimately lead to Fidel Castro organizing 160 men to attack army barracks. This event was the first of many in the revolution. Towards the end of the revolution Castro was able to gain power after the former president went into exile.
  • Vietnam War

    The war is basically North Vietnam and South Vietnam against each other along with the U.S. helping the South. The tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union also plays a role into this war as it is to, once again, prevent the spread of communism. This war was very unpopular in the U.S. as people thought it to be gruesome and unneeded. The war would later end after U.S. troops withdrew because of protests and the Communist forces seizing the south.

    Bay of Pigs Invasion

    This event happened when 1,500 Cuban exiles were sent in to oppose Fidel Castro by the U.S. government. This all took place in Bahía de Cochinos or the Bay of Pigs. The invasion resulted in 1,100 people taken prisoner, they were later released and in December 1962 through July 1965 they returned to the U.S.

    The Communist side of Germany's Berlin built a concrete and barbed wire wall to keep regular transmute between the two sides. They called the wall "Antifascistischer Schutzwall," meaning antifascist bulwark. Though, the wall wasn't built to keep people out, it was meant to keep them .

    The start of this crisis was the discovery of nuclear missile siloes in Cuba owned by the Soviets. This led to the closest encounter of total annihilation between the Soviets and the U.S. This ended with the U.S. agreeing to not invade Cuba and to take missiles out of Turkey and for the Soviets to agree to take the missiles out of Cuba.

    Rise of the Palestine Liberation Organization

    Palestinians were scattered after a war called the Arab-Israeli war leaving them without a center of operations. This changed as a summit meeting was held creating the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The organization had to rely on workers salaries and support from other countries. After the formation of this group there were battles to prove they were a real organization and representation of the Palestinian people.

    Was a small glimpse of liberalization in Czechoslovakia. The leader of the time, Alexander Dubček, promised changes o the governments constitution. These changes were halted as Soviet armed forces rushed the country and retook positions of power.

    Overthrow of the Allende government in Chile

    A Chilean politician comes to power and "threatens" the U.S. by stating he will nationalize U.S. industries. The president of the U.S. at the time, Nixon, orders the CIA to do something about it. The CIA then do everything in the book of espionage to order an assassination on one general who would pose against a coup. Eventually, the armed forces of Chile rose up against the government and attacked.

    The Soviet Union intervened with the Afghan government to support the communist government against anti-communist Muslim guerillas. The conflict that resulted in this invasion was discord within the opposing parties of the government. One party happened to side with the Soviets leading to an alliance of sorts. This eventually led to the Soviets to send in 30,000 troops to invade.

    Tiananmen Square Massacre

    At the square, many Chinese students were killed by the government. These students had been putting on protests against the CCP. However, the government wasn't having it and sent security police and troops to open fire and arrest the protestors. Around 300 or more were killed and 10,000 arrested.

    A spokesmen for the East Berlin's CP had provided details about the relationship the East had with the West. People of the East were allowed to cross over freely. This called for celebration as people partied and tore down the wall.

    Terrorist group al Qaeda had planned and supported the attacks on the twin towers and the pentagon along with and attempted attack on the white house. The reasons for these attacks were the U.S.'s involvement in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf War. These attacks resulted in 2,996 people killed.
