    soviet union launched Sputnik the worlds first artifical sattelite. The U.S. luanched sattlelite Expoler a year later. Americans fear soviets for their use of the sattlelite. Sputnik was luanched Oct. 4, 1957, they launched it to study Earth and the solar system.
