North Korea passed the 38th parallel and UN forces came to help South Korea and the Soviets came to help the soviets. this War ended up a stalemate but a win for the UN because communism did not spread. -

This connects to the gaspire theme of culture because my father told me when I interviewed him that they showed the moon landing everywhere. School even stopped so they could watch the moon landing. -
The Olympics
during the Cold War the US and the USSR were very competitive in every aspect of life including sports so when it came to the Olympics things got very competitive. This became a big deal when the USSR beat us in basketball when we had not lost since 1936. but then during the winter Olympics we beat the USSR in hockey and then were considered unbeatable. this adds to the gaspire theme of intellegence because the US out smarted the USSR in the hockey game and that is why they were able to win.
